I like it being simple - no glitzy slogan etc-- no cooking or DNA in sight.

Yeah, probably the way to go. Very economical. No on location shooting at places like a surf beach or Luna Park. Just keep the camera on the tripod, put the talents in front of the blue or green screen and go for an el cheapo out of focus superimposed background. Nice v/o provided by RL. My only complaint is that the music is probably a little sappy for advertising a football club.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

How many "mutual" (neutral?) supporters turn on the telly looking for a club to support and base it on the membership ad.Batnoe wrote:It's boring and dull. If You like it you must be boring to. It's supposed to get new members. If I were a mutual supporter and looking for a team I wouldn't choose saints based on that
The point of the ad is to turn Saints supporters into Saints members.

Yeah probably not many, but what about past saints members that want the inspiration to re-join?kosifantutti23 wrote:How many "mutual" (neutral?) supporters turn on the telly looking for a club to support and base it on the membership ad.Batnoe wrote:It's boring and dull. Much better than Geelong's horror show.
Clean, simple, cheap and effective. And it involves members, which is always a nice touch. The shots where the bloke says nothing aren't great...his eyes freak me out a bit.
Still, it's not Aaron Hamill chasing down robbers - I've got plenty of time for that (at least it was all filmed in St Kilda).

For the record, the best membership ads invariably show...footy.
The very best was also the cheapest. It showed the Kangaroos belting out the single most passionate and ferocious theme song rendition ever - a round 1 win in 2002 away to Port Adelaide, the first match post-Carey - was unbelievable. You had to turn the volume down it was so loud. Magic.
Carlton's 1996 ad just showing Craig Bradley kicking this goal - - was pretty spine-tingling as well. Their latest one, "No Passengers", is a shocker.
Collingwood's 'The Club' ones were always very effective.
I didn't mind our 'Signed, Sealed, Sainter' efforts. Believe or bum, not so much.

and they have $5 Mill to play with - for all the hype, only a few got on the ad- and even players and coaches missed out.. there was much made of the number- but in the ad do you really get the affect? they may have gotten the desired affect just from the promo of the ad making.. rather than the ad itself.Batnoe wrote:Yeah probably not many, but what about past saints members that want the inspiration to re-join?kosifantutti23 wrote:How many "mutual" (neutral?) supporters turn on the telly looking for a club to support and base it on the membership ad.Batnoe wrote:It's boring and dull. may not be about the 'prize' but given the reaction to not getting a cap this week - it just may get someone to rejoin.
I agree with the above that they are targeting getting those who have not rejoined or who say they are supporters but never been members by offering a little somethign extra.
Interesting stat from sunday was that of those already joind several thousand are NEW memebrs.

I saw Freo's membership ad on the TV a day or so ago and it got me thinking about what our ad could be like and how we had one of the best opportunities to put some all time great highlights in our one (namely BJ's two screamers from last year).
I thought how great it would be to have some pumping rock music, with short sharp grabs of highlights from 2010, like BJ's marks, one of Lenny's crunching tackles/bumps, Milne's brilliant goal in Adelaide, a top mark or two from Roo, etc. Something to get everyone pumped about watching St Kilda play EXCITING footy, which we're apparently hoping to play this year.
Instead, I log on here and watch this cheesy, lame, cringeworthy and boring ad and ponder how we've really missed a big trick.
Most in the footy world think we're boring and "unwatchable" and this ad probably reflects that perfectly and won't inspire too many who haven't been members to suddenly join, unfortunately.

You know apart from winning games of footy lately theres just so much we get horribly wrong....even the ability to win the games of football that actually count we manage to frig up Dont get me wrong, I love this club....but ferk me they make it hard...
I mean the advertising is terrible. We have the best colors. How hard as others have suggested is it to come out with a pumping song and some awesome footage of us playing exciting footy?
How hard is it to have a clash strip that keeps our home strip on front and an all white back? - but no, lets go for a faded friggin apron...
How hard is it for the admin dept to send out 1 membership pack to members and not waste shyteloads sending out duplicates?
Why cant we be innovative and offer something different re family day and recognise that not everyone will get to see N Riewoldt....so do something else where thats not the be all and end all...
Must be hard.
