Why would Fev make a good kicking coach?

Because he’s got a flawless technique especially over a long range.

Yes so what. Does he know how to pass it on to others. Surely our coaches can see how he kicks it and can show others if they think the technique is good.

Until he has a go at it we'll never know. He is a beautiful kick of the ball. I have loved watching him over the years.

Lets just get him then and give him a go. Doesnt matter if he hasnt got the ability to pass it on and not even slightly interested in doing it.

I didn't realise that he wasn't interested in the postion. He should be. Could help some of his personal issues too. The culture at our club would probably help him.

How is Stephen King going to be as a coach? We must of known he has got the ability to pass it on.

Wouldnt have a clue how Steven King will be as a coach but we recruited him to play first. The coaching came later after they obviously saw he had the abilty to do it.

Well that would be the case with any untried specialist coach wouldn't it? Obviously you'd have to see some coaching potential in a candadite to want to give hem a go. Just like Kingy and heaps before him. He is one of the best kicks of the ball the game has seen, arguably.

The guy can actually play (or has been able to in the past) in the a position that currently belongs to the much maligned Kosi

U'd pick him up for next to nothing

He'd have a solid year of trouble free, injury free football (otherwise he wouldn't be considered at all)

He would not command a high salary at all


The clubs at the top end of the ladder will ALL consider him... most won't take him. He would be worth a look

I feel sorry for Fev, it takes a lot to come out the way he did. In all seriousness I thought Sam and the footy show were disgraceful last night - to the point where I turned it off. Having known many many people with depression I couldn't believe their attitude about it all.

Fev is an idiot, but I believe he bleeds red black and white. If I were in charge, I would have signed him up to Sandy, made him go through the strictest tests known to man to make sure he was stone cold sober and living with a Lilo style anklet if that was what it took. Next year we could have picked him up for nothing, and i reckon if anything was to make him take the straight and narrow road it would be a chance to play for the saints.

10 or more years ago noone would have battered an eyelid at Fev's antics.

One question, how does Travis Tuck get done three times for taking a drug which is illegal, then gets ANOTHER chance on a rookie list. I wonder if Fevola's last name was replaced with 'Tuck', 'Watson', 'Harvey' then if it would be so easy to give up on him?

I guess I should be happy that the papers are no longer going with anti St Kilda stories but I'm a strong believer in not kicking a bloke while he is down, which it seems like that is what is occurring constantly in the AFL/media these days.

Fev is 30. To me that sounds very young but it's old for a footballer. Especially in these days of small playing lists and five-year plans.

I reckon the guy is a 'natural', he's a real footballer designed to be a full-forward.

It's a pity he didn't play back in the '70s, '80s and early '90s, before 'flooding' and also before on-line gambling. I have no doubt that had he played in that era he'd be up there with McKenna, Hudson, Kernahan as 'great' full-forwards.

The world is different now...there are more temptations and there's more exposure.

Years ago ABCTV showed a program called "The Draft" in it they followed 3 players that had been nominated for the AFL draft that year. One was Fevola, another was I'm sure Adam Ramanaskas (? spelling), I can't recall the third player....maybe he never ever played in the firsts that's why his name escapes me.

I can recall thinking what an arrogant , but very ignorant in the social mores this young 'ethnic' kid was. His mother and family fawned over him. It was obvious he had never been given any boundaries in his life, just allowed to do and say whatever he pleased, and most of it was ill informed crap coming out of the mouth of a babe, so you excused him because he was only 16 or so.
I was teaching at that time at TAFE and few colleagues that had also seen the program and we were discussing it. We all agreed this Fevola kid was a train wreck waiting to happen. Sadly years on we were proved right. I rang one of my ex-colleages last night and he said how he was just recalling the program and telling his son about it.

Would love to see the show again. I wonder if ABCTV still have this first program in their archives? They did go on and do another series of "The Draft" about 5 years later.

As I say we think the other boy was Ramanaskus, he was such an unassuming but level headed lad and his mother came over as a person that placed manners and concern for others at the forefront and that Rama's siblings were just as important in their promise as their skilfull footballing brother.

Oh if only more parents took the time NOT to fawn over their kids if they are exceptional in some area like sport or what ever, but instead provide guidance on how to use their talent wisely. Then we may not have train wreck like Fevola, Cousins, Carey, Warne et al.

Ramanauskas is a Lithuanian name...that is his background.

I remember they showed Rama's family watching the Draft at home ona dodgy old TV.
I also rememeber Fev saying he'd like footy more if there wasn't so much running involved.

the other kid was headland. he ended up being drafted at pick number 1.

Des Headland played in the 2001 Premiership team for Brisbane, then left for Freo.
Where is he now? retired?
