I'm not talking about mass murderers here. That is only the iceberg tip of psychopaths in the community.Richter wrote:Having worked in a prison during my career, and also at a different time with teenagers, let me assure you that she is most likely not a psychopath but more likely a misguided teenager.GrumpyOne wrote:Trust me.Richter wrote:1/ No. You labelling her one says more about you than anything about her. I have dealt with psychopaths.
Classic case.
I'm talking about people who have no conscience about manipulating people and facts for theor own ego. Liars who see no problem in lying and will continually lie to their own advantage even after being found out.
But our respective experiences lead us to separate conclusions. Nothing wrong with that.

Re: GWS
Please keep in mind that they only had something like a one month signing period which IIRC would have fallen around the same time as trade week. Trade Week was long before Dikileaks so everything would have been rosy as far as Gilbert and St Kilda were concerned.
So if he has signed a deal with GWS that means that both parties have actively broken competition rules if it is a signed agreement, or it is an in principle agreement which is far from a sure thing.
The fact that Gilbo and Roo shared a room together in NZ is a positive, it shows that it is unlikely any damage done to their relationship isn't irreparable.
Also GO, how can you be so sure of this source? I've had some inside sources before, some turned out to be spot on, others were wrong, point is unless it's immediate family who works immediately with the club you can never be sure. Was this the same source who told you that Winmar has a degenerative knee condition out of interest?

I'd agree with the bit you have bolded. That is not close to the way people use the word 'psychopath' in every day terminology, nor is it anything close to the technical definition of the word. It is not even the definition of someone who has an antisocial personality.GrumpyOne wrote:I'm not talking about mass murderers here. That is only the iceberg tip of psychopaths in the community.

Sorry, GO but IMO your use of the word 'psychopath' is highly perjorative and suggests that you are trying to portray this narcissistic teenage girl (and which teenager is not to some degree narcissistic after all) at the same level as people who are usually described as psychopaths - murderers, serial rapists etc.
Your use of the term 'psychopath' demonises her. Whilst she is a serial liar, a manipulator and a compulsive attention seeker, she is also a vulnerable, homeless 17 yo woman whose relationship with her parents is at best strained and at worst completely fractured. IMO one can view this person as all of these things, without losing the necessary focus that the responsibility for most of the things that have happened to this girl remains with her. The bit that is beyond her responsiblity is the blame that belongs with the appalling media representatives who have displayed shameful judgment in dealing with this whole beat-up of a story.

You make a very good case in shifting blame, and finding innocence where others find none.
Really good post.... but I unfortunately don't agree.
It would be a dull world if we all did.

I think 'sociopath' is the most applicable description for K DGrumpyOne wrote:1/ She is obviously a psychopath.
2/ Sam Gilbert did the right thing in dumping her. Unfortunately not before she used him for her own purposes.
3/ Sam Gilbert's career at the Saints is over.
4/ Ricky Nixon's career is over.
5/ The club handled the situation perfectly. Came down heavily to start with and then modified their stance. She had no doubt that s*** would follow if she didn't back off from the Saints and their players.
6/ There is no fool like an old fool. Insert Nixon, Hinch, Costello, Wilson, etc etc into that statement.
7/ I'll never look at Roo and Dal the same way again.
8/ The real victims in all this are Sam's, Roo's and Dal's parents. Imagine having that sort of crap about your son posted publically for all to see.

My ex was a psych nurse and I got into reading up on disorders. The first thing I thought when I saw her was a personality disorder..
Like all disorders, there are different levels and she is not necessarily antisocial.
She has the same traits as someone I knew that was diagnosed with a personality disorder. They are a sad affliction as you get little sympathy because of the destructive behaviour and you appear to be perfectly functional, but with a really annoying set of behaviours.
They are particularly hard for family members who often need to clean break from them to stop being exploited.

just a comment piece by a footy fan
but sums it up--
http://www.theroar.com.au/2011/03/10/th ... x-scandal/
interesting to hear the perceptions out there- guy on radio this morning lumped Nick's "misdemeanours' with Carey's behaviour-- to which the radio commentator expressed disbelieve- but the topic moved on.....
with the discussion being Surfers and their current ' good works' and as was pointed out Surfers would still be assumed to be 'testing the boundaries ' when it comes to many issues- always thought of as being ' wild children'.

"Farewell Kim. In five years time we’ll be wondering what did happen to that schoolgirl".
The media who have sucked her dry and the rest of us will have moved on much soon than that but with every new person she meets, with every job interview she goes to, she is stuck with this for the rest of her life.
I feel very sorry for her.
