The very first footy game I saw up close and personal with my own naked holy eyeballs
Was just after the twentieth century after the birth of the thin dusty Jewish guy shuffled
To a close at last; people were still gaping at the smoking century like it was a car crash,
And the new one had opened with murder as well, thugs crowing in a cave over the kids

Of course it is. people say they dont like bad news but ask any newspaper or TV person which rates or sells and they will tell you bad news is much more successful than the good stuff.

I've been a mad and passionate St.Kilda supporter for over 40 years, and seen the highs and lows.

However, that article doesn't just sum up St.Kilda - it sums up the game we call 'Footy'.

We have a go at Carlscum, and the filth, etc. etc.

Don't know about you, but some of my best mates barrack for those sides - and yes, unlike any other code, they are still my mates.

The game itself, where smalls can play against bigs, if your slow but have a good football brain you can make 'quicks' look stupid, we're you can run and bounce at full tilt, where you can take a screamer in the goal square, where you can torp it through from 60 metres, where you can launch an offesive 20 metre handpass...

Yes, that's the wizardry, and excitement of our game - whether its a Riewoldt, or a Didak, or a Goodes.

We all appreciate it. We might not always like it, but what a game.

No idiots from the Herald Sun, or idiot player managers, or 17 year old kids will devalue it for me!!!

My hope wasnt murdered just roughed up a little in a back alley by Geelong and Collingwood

Hasn't ruined it for me. I could tell you loads of stories from the 70's and 80's, that never made the paper, that far surpass anything you've read in the last decade. Football and it's players have got better, media, and the readers, have got worse.
