Both looking very fit, they must have got a kick up the arse for there dismal year at sandy last year.
Any info?

Will Johnson had previously done nothing for me but I actually thought he offered something up forward last week. He seemed to present well, showed good skills and had a real crack. As was mentioned in another thread, Archer looked pretty good but maybe a little chunky. If he lost some weight he might be a good power foward.
I was surpised both survived the axe at the end of last season but both seem to be coming along. It just goes to show that I know nothing.

To me Will Johnson looks like he needs to improve his endurance, looked like he ran out of puff easily.
If you guys think Daniel Archer is chunky now, you should've seen him last season. Has trimmed down considerably. If he has another good pre-season, I think his body will be at a good standard. Needs to work on concentration & skills.

I thought Will's pass to him self and running back on to the loose ball looked like the play of the day until he sprayed the kick for goal. He def seemed to be sucking air in after his bursts but so did harves. I thought he looked determined and like a guy who wants to play seniors.
Archer looks a good size to me and you wouldn't want him to loose weight if he is a ruck/ forward option. He looked a bit overwhelmed and dropped a few marks but presented really well and was always in the action like the other big blonde forward.

As Dennis Cometti said during the broadcast, Shane Tregear of Sandy Zebs mentioned to him Johnson has alot of potential but is a poor kick. Apparently he could become a very good AFL player but until this part of his game is fixed he wont make the team.
What I liked about Archer was he had a red hot crack. Fumbled a little but thats to be expected of a kid getting used to elite footy. At best I think he could end up abit like Leigh Brown of the pies - hes not quick, hes solidly built, can play ruck and forward and has a real go.

Johnson seemed much more competent than I expected; had a real crack, read the play well and is extremely fast. Unfortunately none of that counts for much when his kicking is so unreliable. I'd be happy to see him get a go, but I don't see why he was retained ahead of Miles.
Archer looks like a big solid body that can be thrown around if we are hit by injuries. If Gards and Kosi don't come up any time soon and we get another injury to McEvoy or Roo, then Archer could be someone we throw into the ruck or CHF to give an honest contest and come out with a goal or two. He may still develop with time, but he just looks like an emergency gorilla at this stage.

+ 1. my sentiments exactly on both players. i just would not have been creative enough to think of such a colourful phrase as emergency gorilla
