The impact of Ricky's fall on StK

Post: # 1041968Post Waltzing St Kilda »

Ricky Nixon may or may not be a sleazebag, but as player agents go (compared to, say, Paul Connors) he's certainly been a friend of St Kilda's over the years. He's never tried to drag Roo or Dal away, he tried desperately to get Ben Cousins to the club, and more recently he gave us Tommy Walsh. (And what must Tommy's folk back in Ireland be thinking of all this, by the way?)

So it's a little surprising to read some of the vilification in this forum. If Nixon's accreditation is revoked then I doubt it will be a good thing for the Saints.

Nixon's defence to his St Kilda clientele will probably be that he just throwing his body (literally, as it turned out) across a human hand-grenade. And there might be something to it. In an effort to defuse KD, after realizing she wasn't just going to disappear, he might have played the concerned philanthropist for a while, then either succumbed to her charms or fell into the trap of thinking he was still one of the boys. Or maybe he just took his feigned friendship too far.

In any case, the St Kilda FC should be outraged that various sections of the media (e.g. 3AW and the SMH) are referring to Nixon as the "St Kilda player manager". This, on top of "ex-St Kilda player Andrew Lovett" (88 games at Essendon, 0 at St Kilda), "the St Kilda schoolgirl" (a Frankston schoolgirl whose history includes a mysteriously under-reported sexual-assault claim against a Collingwood player), and "sacked St Kilda player Luke Ball" (offered a reduced contract and walked out despite many appeals to stay) -- all this just proves either (a) the press is incompetent or (b) Riewoldt was right, and certain sections of the media are preying on us. Or both.

Yes.

Funny how the mud sticks. I expect that most of his clients will stand by him.

Who does Ricky Nixon manage, both at St.Kilda, but more particularly at other clubs. According to the media he only manages St.Kilda players.

Good on you for sticking up for him. I use to know Ricky quite well in his playing days (lets not forget he played for us) and he was a great guy. Down to earth and not full of himself.

We could also ask what Nick Riewoldts girlfriends parents would be thinking. The media have just feed off this whole KD fiasco, they should be ashamed. Not only should we not buy the HS but also we wont be watching On The Couch.

As Hunch would say, Shame, Shame, Shame...........................

cant believe this.

he has betrayed his biggest client - riewoldt. this girl spread photos of nick when she had never met him. shes nicks enemy. and nixon is trying to sh*g her? please gimme a break! riewoldt has every right to be furious at nixon. seriously. further more she had a history of stitching people up yet he was still drawn in to the honeypot. should lose accreditation for stupidity alone.

to top it off he claims he was trying to "help".

You are making all the assumptions she wants you to make.

I'm not so willing to believe her.

So 'Puh-lease' yourself!

If she has done anything illegal than charges should be laid like anyone else and Ricky should make a formal complaint with the the police.
If he doesnt make a formal complaint with the police i will ask why not?

this is damaging the whole AFL and given there seems credible innuendo that most of what she has left is " not st kilda focused' maybe other clubs should be giving up the protection money and mot her......

She is from America and came out here to be with Nick. Any parent would be concerned for their daughter, this isnt a normal situation you would want to be involved in.

I dont see how anything that happens to RN will have anything to do with our club. There is no way RN helps out the saints. he like any good manager is helping only his players so if he is deregistered they just go to another manager. Will not make any difference to us at all.

CCTV footage from the hotel at 7am is established. At best its unprofessional and naive. At worst....

im with plugger on this one. no effect. plenty of player managers out there and plenty of people whod love to be a player manager. ricky is very replaceable. roo and gilbo will get new managers and move on.

He made the point on radio this afternoon that the video showed him leaving at 7.15am, but not arriving at 7am. Given the history of lies from KD and The Hun I'm inclined to believe the implication that he's been misrepresented.

Ricky Nixon has always come across as a rude, arrogant pr*ck, and there is no surprise the media would have been licking their lips when this story broke. From the vision shown on various media outlets, it does not look good for him..... seriously if he did get involved in that way, how stupid could you possibly be after seeing how she screwed over our players.
Should not be allowed to manage on stupidity alone

well written post. you should post more often. nice turn of phrase and good argument.

i think maybe a tad too generous to mr nixon though. i think his intentions may not be entirely benevolent . there is just an element of old fashion sleaze here im afraid and im not convinced he has served the best interests of his clients here. From all accounts it seems he did help us with Tommy Walsh. But in this instance hes just crossed too many interests and been too duplicitous. In any case it looks like the AFLPA has already made it up its minded where this is going. His state of mind must be horribly shoddy to be caught in such a public sting.

No effect on us at all imo.

He represents a couple of our players. Got involved in all this rubbish because of that representation.

He actions here had nothing to do with us. Were of a personal nature and was not acting on behalf of the club or players in any way, shape or form.

He built his own bonfire of stupidity here.

To say that he threw himself on a hand grenade to deflect from the players is drawing a pretty long bow. It may work out that way which is fortunate for the players, but just rediculous for Nixon.

He got played. Well and truly played.

"SCANDAL-hit player agent Ricky Nixon is believed to have fled Australia. Collingwood president and Triple M breakfast presenter Eddie McGuire tweeted early this morning that Nixon, who is at the centre of a scandal involving the St Kilda schoolgirl, left the country last night....."

While I can accept the comments here about players simply getting a new manager, you can't help that think it's gonna affect players like Nick mentally to some degree. It certainly seems like they were pretty close.

If RN has in fact fled the country, on the run as it were, there may also be some difficulties for any new manager trying to access all the information they require.
