With the fotty season underway here is my tip for Top 4 this season

What do you think fellow sainters?
Mine are
1.Collingwood
2.Stkilda
3.Hawks
4.Bulldogs
----
5.Carlton
6.Geelong
7.Melbourne
8.Fremantle
We'll be there abouts again... Right at the pointy end... Im sure of this...
Too much talent and dedication to not give it another push...
Our bottom six weakness may rear its ugly head again... Hopefully a few of the young guys can step up and rectify this, much like Sidebottom, Blair, Beams et al did for the pies last year...
IMO, if Peake, Dempster, Mini, Eddy (altho rookie listed so not much of a look in) etc are certanties week in week out, we will still be in the top quarter of the draw, but not a real threat...
But with the quality of our top 5-7 players, we will certainly be there abouts... Roo, BJ, Lenny, Monty, Chips, Dal, Gilbo are clearly the best top bunch of players of any team IMO...
Edit: My original thought was I don't think the Hawks will make the 8... Massive backline weakness, overrated midfield, and hot and cold forwards... The don't play collective football...

Yeah, by doing it all, I guess I might be open to criticism. The suns pick might be optimistic. i don't think the top 4 will change much.
I will expect the saints to start slow (about 4th) around mid season and then finish 2ndish after getting their team right and adjusting to a slightly different type of play. I think port will by sh1te and may finish bottom but it's easy just to write the tiges.

love the optimism but collingwood kill bottom eight teams and if given the chance will destroy the likes of geelong and doggy's, they'll be top 2 with us imo, not sure whether 1 or 2 though. i think freo fourth, hawks 5 doggy's six and blues infront of roos.borderbarry wrote:1... Saints.

Pies, Saints, Cats, Hawks is my Top 4, with a nod the Dees and Doggies.
An extra factor though, will be if some teams adopt a new style of play.
The Pies stole the Saints game style in 2010 and won a flag.
Will all the other clubs be looking at how the Pies did it, and adopt the
"running press" style ? Is that going to bring a team up from nowhere ?

Ling has slowed down.Spinner wrote:Why is everyone thinking Geelong will fall so much? Because they lost Gazza?
Their midfield is still mint... Bartel, Selwood, Chapman, Corey, Enright, Ling...
New coach and game plan so I expect the Cats to struggle at some stage of the year. I'd expect them to make the top six but If they have a bad run with injuries they might will miss the eight.
Pies
Freo
Hawks
Saints
Dogs
Cats
Roos
Dees

I have this sinking feeling we won't make top 4 this year. Hope to hell I'm wrong. If I'm right, it'll be
1. Pies
2. Hawks
3. Freo
4. Cats
if we do make it, the Cats will miss. I reckon the Dogs are history.
Probably all wrong. We'll see soon enough.

i have the same feeling. i think we will be thereabouts and will give us the benefit of the doubt to scrape into 4th.meher baba wrote:I have this sinking feeling we won't make top 4 this year. Hope to hell I'm wrong. If I'm right, it'll be

i think the hawks might really emerge this year. they played some really good footy in patches against the best opposition last year. i am pretty confident they will make the top 4 and think they will surpass us in premiership calculations simply because they have the artillery to beat collingwood
that's 2 of the top 4, i reckon we will be scrapping with geel wb freo mainly for the other 2 spots. there will probably be a surprise top 4 contender as there is most years such as freo in 2010, in 2011 who knows bit i wouldn't be surprised to see nth melb in the thick of the action when the whips are cracking

Not much different from last year me thinks. Ablett gone from Geelong will make a difference to them, as he was always their spark in so many games when they got challenged. The Hawks rely heavily on Hodge and Franklin having good games and when they dont, they don't fire as a team. The Dogs and Freo will tread water and just hang around the eight. The Saints will need to sort the forward line structure out, as it's not working well enough to win a flag, but we will still contest the finals, though we may also suffer from lack of ruck power. I think Collingwood still have weaknesses in their forward line, and opposition coaches know that if they contain Swan and Pendlebury, then it slows the Woods quite a bit and we did that well in the first GF last year, and almost got the gold, and I thought we went into the replay with big heads IMHO and got blown away.

Collingwood, St.Kilda top 2 - the rest is a raffle.
Not sure why ppl are rating the cats with a new coach, game style, aging list, no new recruits of any note to be in the mix - crystal balls anyone.
Why are Hawthorn going to suddenly get hot? - seriously flawed last year - more crystal balls
Freo may be interesting - was last year a sign of things to come or will everybody work them out? Not sure they are over laided with talent - here's one for those that put them up in the top 4
who are their top 6 players that could make all australian?
Not sure why the scepticism about St.Kilda unless ppl just get caught up in the media circus? Do you think the saints last couple of years was built on freaky talent and enthusiasm or a game plan that is hard to break down? If we apply the same principles with the same list + why would we fall out of the 8 as someone has suggested?

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
