Absolutely carried by a collingwood team of fast furious players. I think he'll be finished AFL footy either by the end of this year of next.

But he has a great character blah......
Yep Ball is no good - 5th in the B&F in a premiership team.
Played well everytime I saw him - more like he carried some of those outside types

Maybe posters who seem to know the salary structures can post all the $ again - inflate whatever he was paid/gets now - (Note most of these figures they quote are based on media opinions)

The idea is to reduce his output and increase his salary, to paint him as black as possible

Well St Kilda were quoted a number of times that we offered him a million over 3 years (I haven't ever seen a request from anyone at the Club for a retraction).

He nominated himself in the draft at 500k pa for the first 2 years of a 3 year contract, with the third year to be negotiated later. Hands up anybody who actually believes he'll accept substantially less than the 500k for the third year?

Which part of the above would you like to dispute?

I apologise if the figures quoted cause you concern in your painting of the club as 'black' and Ball as 'white'.

Sometimes facts can be so awkward when your trying to paint a particular picture.

As I've said repeatedly I have no issue with him wanting to leave because he was offered substa, ntially more.

My only objection to the whole sorry saga was the attempt by his 'people' to portray us in a bad light.

Why is it so difficult for some to understand that we 'valued' him less than Collingwood did in monetary terms?
Gold Coast certainly valued Abett more than Geelong did, adn yet I don't see articles about his fractured relationship with his coach being the cause of him leaving?

What's the difference other than Ball's manager making disparaging remarks about our Club in an attempt to get Ball to Collingwood adn Liam Pickering just stating the bleeding obvious - the deal is too good?

Yes the figures are different but the principle is the same, IMO.

Luke ball coming 5Th in the pies best and fairest is irrelevant. He would have received so many votes for the ridiculous gushing that he receives every time he touches the footy.

Ball could lay a few sloppy tackles a game, kick a few ten meter kicks to daisy Thomas and handball a few timeqs to swan and receive some votes. No better or worse than clinton jones.

Remember grand final week was in fact luke ball week, it was all about luke ball.

Not at all sorry he got traded for being slow and generally bad. A liability.

Yep clubs are that unprofessional that they would vote like that. It makes sense that the pies are unprofessional afterall it took them 2 goes to win the flag.

I have put you down as an early nomination.

It's tragic but LB was slow and not what we needed. Wellingham for Ball would have been a win win....and I would have cashed out in Nov 2007 and be sitting in the Coterie and holidaying in Portofino for 6 months of the year.

He was not sacked...we offered him 3 years. An ex-captain who turned his back on all his mates and the fans that had supported him. It still kills me. I bet his best mate is leigh Colbert.

Yeah Luke Ball, great character, good bloke, was probably an Eagle Scout, helps little old ladies across the street, probably volunteers his time at the soup kitchen for the homeless...good on him.

So what? The 'Pies had enough runners and needed an 'in and under' player. He thought he could still be the free-running midfielder at St Kilda...didn't fit the plan. He'd already decided to leave.

Unfortunately the media swallowed Eddie's lies of 'poor Luke, cut adrift by Saints, saved by compassionate 'Pies".

what shites me in the whole deal was
"wahh, i want to go to collingwood,, wahhhh"

doesnt get touched for 30 odd picks
surprise surprise
somehow, despite all the odds
a former capt and best and fairest and a bloke that sticks his head over it and bleeds for you (ok he was slow and hadnt any depth in his kicking which prob came from Great big Tit running him into he ground, dunno)...manages to not get picked up for 30 picks

30..

picks.

how the hell does that happen?
THATS what shites me

Yep....that and the draw, sorry fixture and hmmm.... what else? Picks for GC and GWS. Anything else?

The AFL make up the rules as they go along. It makes me sick. It's so tainted and if we had half a brain we would spend our weekends gardening or doing whatever floats our boat but we lurve the Saints I guess...

I believe that as part of the deal for LB, they offred him to for their early 20's pick which they were going to give to us which we would have given to the Dogs for Andrejs Everitt. However, the Dogs pulled out. They should have done the deal as they would have got a much better draft pick than the one they got last year.

No,
They offered Weelingham to NM for their pick #21/22 which they would have given to us to trade to WB for Everitt.
WB said all along they wanted a pick in the top 22 for Everitt.
We told Collingwood we either wanted a pick that would satisfy WB or a player similar to Everitt - N Brown was mentioned by us.

St Kilda obviously decided they were prepared to let Ball go if they could replace hm with a player of Everitt/Brown style.
If not they were happy to keep him.
I don't know about anybody else but I find it farcical that a Club would offer a contract for 300+k to a player they don't want?
Especially when the salary cap is tight.

You can argue that they didn't value his worth as much as Collingwood obviously did, but to state that St Kilda didn't want Ball is obviously nonsense.
They clearly wanted him but at 300+k per season and not 500k per season.

For Christ's sake, can people use the search buttons rather than spin more sh*t about the Ball trade negotiations?

You're right about it being to NM and that is what I meant. A straight swap in hindsight would have worked.

What, do we have to cut and paste as well as do your research for you?

Mr. Magic has it right.

North only offered pick 25 for Wellingham. Dogs wanted pick 22 or lower for Everitt. North had pick 21 but wouldn't part with it. Deal broke down. Wellingham was never offered to St Kilda.

Dude, there were a number of people talking about Ball and you don't own this board or can you tell people what they should be discussing.
