They are over there so to help get physically and mentally ready for the season ahead. IMO this will immensly help as the players are away from all the bull***t over here. This trip is not a reward. The only reward the boys want is a premiership! After that "effort" in the replay those players should be out on the track working their butts off for FOOTBALL rather than taking a glorified footy trip to NZ talk about mediocrity being rewarded!!!!
How dumb is this????

To be honest I think team building is overrated. I doubt they'll come back any tighter than they already were, with the exception of the new blokes.
WHat it does do however is break the monotony of running around the same oval day in day out. THIs keeps the players mentally fresh and helps them push themselves harder.
I found this applies to a lot of jobs. When I was working retail I woul3 start off very productively when I was stacking shelves for example. But after two or three hours I would eventually get bored and slow down just because I couldn't keep focussed because it became so repetitive. HOwever I found if I did an hour of shelf stacking and then an hour of cleaning I would do both jobs at a far greater level. I think breaking up the pre-season like this is the best thing for the players.

Glad the players experiencing a new scene right now
It' ll be a long season which starts against geelong and the psychological side of things would need careful consideration on the eve of another campaign. There'll be less jet lag than going to Arizona and the Grand Canyon and hopefully the altitude NZ style will help the team.
Ross didn't exactly rush into an overseas trip so i hope he ticks every box he has on his outcomes list.
The players looked to be relaxed and in good spirits- more shots at goal please in 2011.

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

kosifantutti23 Collingwoods win in the GF replay of 2010 had less to do with a trip to Arizona than the recruitment of Ball and Jolly in the off season. Arizona did nothing to help the Magpies in 08 & 09 when they were belted by ourselves and Geelong! I suppose I'm still feeling the pain and to be honest, I don't think these guys should be "taken away from the media spotlight" and protected from the fallout from the "nude photo scandal" as the media refer to it. I thought it was "Strength through loyalty" and that we're ALL IN THIS TOGETHER, well who protects US (the supporters) from the jibes and insults? They can go to timbuctoo to train bungee jump split the atom or whatever to "bond" but come round one the heat will be on! May as well confront it HERE like WE have to!

I think its a great idea. Get some perspective outside of the melbourne/herald sun fishbowl where the tiniest things become news fodder.
a million tourists bungee jump every day. i dont think the risks of spinal damage are anything but negliible. especially in healthy strong blokes.
lighten up. footy should be fun.

again ask coaches fitness staff, anyone that has anything to do with FOOTBALL, afl is a game of inches, the Saints lost 2009 grandfinal by 2 goals, we drew in the 2010, its a game of inches and so far we have failed when it counts, what i can't understand is why you are objecting, every 'supporter' should be excited that saints are doing everything in that power to get that much better. And to everyone thats saying that their not getting closer is crap, every new thing they do, every hard thing they do their going to get closer naturally because they have to help each other throughthejiggingsaint wrote:kosifantutti23 Collingwoods win in the GF replay of 2010 had less to do with a trip to Arizona than the recruitment of Ball and Jolly in the off season. To be frank I think its about overdue for AFL players to be taken back to basics ie: getting fit and ready for football rather than all this BS about "bonding and teambuilding" what a crock!
oh really???

and btw just read all the players blogs, 1 they were still training over there so don't know what all the fuss is about, there losing fitness but anyway.
and 2. would you rather them be sitting on there couches watching tv at home after training and going to night clubs, or would u like them to be doing activities that will naturallybring them closer. sounds like zac and jack steven have got to know each other.

O ffs bloody training in the first place would put more pressure on their joints, seriously guys are you crazy, your worried about their body if they go bunjy jumping. im not dissagreeing with u dwoodrow i just think its crazy that some of u guys are complaining that their doing a canyon swing, ffs its more dangerous driving a car to training each day.DWOODROW wrote:They didn't actually all bungy jump anyway. They did a canyon swing. Not as much pressure on the ligaments and joints.
I know because I am too heavy to bungy jump. I would like to do it but would probably break the strap.
