I am glad you approve NOW we can breathe a sigh of relief, hopefully Ross Levine rings you next time before acting, his very successful prviate business might do somewhat better with your help.rodgerfox wrote:They needed to respond.Life Long Saint wrote:RF,
The scandal was that the "troubled schoolgirl" was passing these photos off as hers...in that she'd taken them. Implicating Roo, Zac and Dal as being party to these activities in the presence of a minor.
In absence of any counter point, the only voice being offered becomes the truth. She was the only one talking.
But it should have been done via a 'matter of fact' press release.
Had they given it the level of 'respect' it deserved (ie. very little), they could have played the victim card themselves from the start.
But instead, they came across as very rattled by it, and therefore it was assumed that they were rattled for a reason.
It also aired the rift between captain and player/s.
Riewoldt, being 'the face of the club' made no effort to protect or defend Dal Santo or Dawson.
The other big mistake was not the court order to stop the photos, it was again the missed opportunity to be the victim in this.
Instead, by using the heavy handed hero approach they made the girl appear to be the victim in all of this. They actually gave eveyone the ammunition to 'barrack' for the girl in all of this.
This also in turn, gave her story that the club shafted her all those months ago when she fell pregnant to one of their players, some creedence.
It was always going to come out that she was lying about the photos. When it did, it should have been a clean cut case of 'ooops, aren't we all embarrassed now that we believed this lying little nasty girl. I guess there's nothing to see here - let's move on'.
But instead, because of the approach the club took, the public and the press simply ignored the facts and kept looking for other angles to roast them.
The approach they've taken now is the absolutely correct one.

He's a PwC partner.
He's a footy fan. He big notes his role at the club to anyone that will listen, and has loose lips in order to sound cool to people.
He's not a bad guy, but has no place at a footy club.

Am I the only one that sees the irony in this thread???
RF the "stalker troll" that loves the attention he can whip up.
KD the "stalker moll' that loves the attention she can whip up.
With both it is the attention that is prime.....and nothing get's in their way.
It is pretty irrelevant how the club handled KD early on....even if the club had been perfect in how they handled it....she was always going to stir up attention and trouble.
Looks like Roo is RF's current vehicle for attention. He knows that SS forumites will bite if he bags him...and so the more he will do so. That he is now stooping to the gutter to do so is just a new low.

Just another example of GT 'defending' one of his love childs (kos roo ball...) against the club administration...
If GT had realized 22 player take the field in an afl game, not just the 12 or so stars, we might have gone all the way.
He's a pig headed, my way or highway bloke who brings himself down... He doesn't change his thoughts beliefs no matter how wrong they turn out to be in reality - only to stick by himself. GT 1st, Club he 'loves' 2nd

Do the proponents of the other method of handling this, whatever that is, really believe the girl would have stopped doing what she was doing?
And by not doing a press conference and doing things on the quiet, we would have been open to allegations that everything KD said was true and/or we were trying to shut her up.
Either way it's hard to win when you're dealing with a nut job!
Of course it could of been handled better.
Roo shouldn't of called a presser, it did more to fan the fire than put it out.
A senior club official speaks on behalf of the club and says we're going to make this person pay for years to come, other senior people at the club despair at this heavy handed attitude, club has to retract on this agressive stance.
Then the club finally settles with the party and can leave be, fantastic.
However (and you can't blame her this time) we have already heard from Ross the over protective parent, Lenny the big brother defending Roo's honour, now there is a big deal made of Roo and Gilbert making up and sharing rooms.
Why does the club feel the need to continually (and quite unconvincingly to the external footy world) project a cheesy image the club is doing OK.
Let the PR company do it's job, enjoy your time in NZ, and as the Beatles once said 'let it be'
I don't want to hear about it anymore.

Your not much different to Grant, but then its always been about you.rodgerfox wrote:I despise it when supposed media people aren't honest about their ex-clubs.Dr Spaceman wrote: Maybe, just this once, GT could have acted like the Saints supporter he professes to be and said "no comment"!
Like Hird when talking about Essendon, or Darcy and the Bulldogs. It's an insult to the public's intelligence that these guys are paid experts and paid to give their opinions - but they lie through their teeth when it comes down to a club they support.
Anyway, I agree with GT. The club handled it woefully initially. However to be fair, I don't think Lyon's comments re vilification were anywhere near the headline of the article.
And I also got the impression that the farcical Reiwoldt press conference was his idea.
Big mistake and totally unneccassry, but I got the impression that Reiwoldt being the greedy waanker that he is, was hell bent on protecting his marketability at the expense of his club and his mates.
Truly not sure why you pretend to support the club and spend so much time here - 2 years ago you had simply "gone off AFL"......but here yiu are .....stilll carping on.
Cant recall 1 positive comment about the club from you- sure, theyve made mistakes, but over the last few years theyve also done a lot right.
I dont support them blindly, I just dont criticse them blindly as well.....to me thats justr dumb....and somehow that leads me back to you....
Is Nick Riewoldt a wanker? - could be. Ive often thought he's not the supporters man aka Hayes...but then.....who else in the club has carried the pressure/expectations of the entire club as nearly as much as Riewoldt? ...certainly not Kosi.....who comes across as a big lovable larrikin.....but then again he has no expectations on him does he....I mean...he plays 4 good games in 7 years and that sustains him for all time........ If Riewoldt doesnt perform for 1 week its front page news.....for that I cut him some slack.

Her doing anything doesn't matter. It's not what she's doing, it's that the media are driving it. The media are only driving it, because the club gave them the lead to run with.Dr Spaceman wrote: Do the proponents of the other method of handling this, whatever that is, really believe the girl would have stopped doing what she was doing?
There was no story initially. The club managed to create one.
It's the fact that the press are giving her a voice that's cost the Saints a pretty big hit to their image.
The Saints made it a bigger story than it was, throwing the press a bone who in turn give air time to the girl and side with her when writing about it.

It was nothing.
There was a huge fuss about it because of the group sex angle. It would have taken the club 30 seconds to put that to bed (excuse the pun) then there would have been nothing to talk about.

Its disturbing that when your petty hatred of all things St Kilda and indeed AFL football comes to light you resort to what can only be described as childish insults. I'm not preterbed by this, I can't be...my expectations of you couldn't get any lower so that softens the blows from your wet lettuce.rodgerfox wrote:Ummm f***wit, I've been saying in this thread that the club has done the absolute right thing.Teflon wrote: Cant recall 1 positive comment about the club from you- sure, theyve made mistakes, but over the last few years theyve also done a lot right.
Still, would be nice for you to balance your common criticism of the club with some positivity for the things they do well - Im not the only poster noting this by the way, but once again....we're all"fwits" while you're ok.....is that it?

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. This was the article on the day that the two photos were published on Facebook. No mention of group sex at all. Not even a veiled inference!
Statement released by the club and the AFLPA regarding the legality and ethics of the publishing of the photo.
Nothing was "put to bed" then...and just another press release from the club the next day would not have done any more the next day.
I think what he is saying is, the girl said she took the photos, was in the hotel room at the time so that itself implied that kind of vibe.
Why it took sites like ours publishing photo's of the miami hotel to prove that wasn't the case.
But like I said, it's all done now, and this is just hindsight talk isn't it.
