Is it really wierd Siposs was given 2?

Ledger was selected before him and seems to have been given the short end of the stick.

Also in all seriousness, and I felt the same about the scully/trengove situation... Id be seriously pissed off being given 31/35 when the bloke running second got to get a single digit!

Also dunno about Raph changing numbers. Unless it has some serious significance - dont know why you wouldnt try and make a number your own, especially a good footy number like 16.

I like Cripps at 35 - it'll be a number that brings a smile to sainters fans. Based on absolutely nothing I like the boy already.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

So what happens if Cripps is a dud like most of our recent draft picks?

Look, I hope he isn't and he's a gun, but the number 35 is a sacred site at Moorabbin, and should be given to a proven player not a maybe IMO.....

Agree re Raph.

Apparently 8 was his number before he was recruited however he's about to start his 8th season at the Saints.

I would have thought the moment had passed but each to their own I suppose :?

The future is the future....we can't predict it but sometimes it doesn't hurt to show a little faith in a player. I think the man that has the biggest say in this already has. Besides you can't give a player a famous number after they've made it... that is entirely arse up.

Who is under more pressure of expectation, Cripps or Winmar?

Much harder to live up to a famous name, than a number on a jumper IMO.

Nick certainly has the harder task but I would imagine that the coaches and club would be going out of their way to down play it - especially Mr unflapable, can you find a pulse" Lyon. The hype comes from the media so as long as they keep their heads out of the papers. The other take you could have on this is that some players rise to a challenge and these 2 could roll all before them.

Neither.

Winmar is not Cuz's son remember, he's a cousin.....so it's a lower expectation.

As for Cripps, all I think of is a severly buggered hammy that ruined what should've been an excellent career.

I think SainterK meant the expectation of wearing 35.

#35 may well be sacred but we shouldn’t get hung up about it. I really, really hope Cripps is a gun, but because I want us to have another gun, not because he’s wearing Banger’s jumper.

Just like we needed to move on when plugger left, just like we need to move on from the GF losses, we really need to move on from the "horror" of seeing someone else wearing a past champion’s jumper! There are bigger issues we need to deal with!

IMO of course

Really happy to see that numbers are just that, numbers.

One to whatever, no gaps, they are just numbers.

I was trying (rather unsuccessfully) to say that I think the expectation of a surname is far more pressure than that of a number.

proven players rarely want to change jumper numbers. this logic means that the number will be vacant forever.

Correct! Im so happy to see them all used.

And this crapola about saving 35 for a definate gun player.

Players get a number, 90% try and make it their own. By the time a player is a definate gun - they most likely will not want to change numbers.

And lets be honest - 35 aint too sexy.

No expectation Cripps. You wear the jumper, it doesnt wear you.
