Meanwhile, St Kilda has lost another senior official with the departure of recruiting manager John Peake.
After four years at Moorabbin, the highly rated scout resigned after Tuesday's rookie draft.
Although the circumstances are unclear, industry sources believe his relationship with coach Ross Lyon was a factor.
Peake is the sixth official to leave the club in six months.
They include four assistant coaches and list manager Matthew Drain.
The Saints confirmed Peake's exit in a statement yesterday, but did not mention his services while announcing former assistant coach Tony Elshaug as the replacement.
It is understood rival clubs plan to speak to Peake, who has 18 years' experience in AFL recruiting.
There was a surprise for St Kilda last month when it found out Jamie Cripps suffered diabetes, after it picked him with its first choice in the national draft.

Assistant coaches come and go, as do administrators.rodgerfox wrote:"You just can't work with the bloke" was what an ex-assistant was quoted as saying.SainterK wrote: Although the circumstances are unclear, industry sources believe his relationship with coach Ross Lyon was a factor.
If Ross was impossible to work for the players would be looking to get out; particularly as they’ll now have to make the long drive to unfashionable Seaford just to train under this despot.
And there's plenty of them. There’s um um, there’s um um, there’s um um..............

Obviously not an opinion shared by Tony Elshaug.rodgerfox wrote:"You just can't work with the bloke" was what an ex-assistant was quoted as saying.SainterK wrote: Although the circumstances are unclear, industry sources believe his relationship with coach Ross Lyon was a factor.
Perhaps his work performance was a source of tension?
Just set me straight - was that Peake's job?rodgerfox wrote:The continued recruitment of lowly skilled players who are brought in to play roles that don't require them to kick, is hurting.

It seems that if they're any good, it was 'Ross'' job and he's a marvel.
If they turn out to be no good, it seems it was the recruiting guy's job, and poor old Ross is magically getting this horrible list that he's inherited to over-achieve.
If a reject plays a good game, then 'Ross' has shaped them. If they're rubbish then the recruiting guy erred and poor Ross is left to clean up the mess again.
That seems to be the way it works.

And these attributions come from who, exactly?rodgerfox wrote:It seems that if they're any good, it was 'Ross'' job and he's a marvel.

From your alleged "reliable source", no doubt.

For a start, I don't work in the industry.
It's just sad that through stubborness and ego I can see one of the best groups of talent I've ever seen being wasted.

And anyone who disagrees or sees something slightly more balanced and realisitic, is shouted down and belittled.
And why have you used quotation marks around "reliable source"? Are you quoting someone? If so, whom?

One thing is for sure, I don't make sarcastic, smart arrse responses with emoticons to other posters in order to drum up support against the poster I disagree with.SainterK wrote:Curious, how do you feel you respond to people with an different view to your own?rodgerfox wrote:

I am happy to discuss footy with you though.
Why would Harves have remained in contact, and then come back....why on earth would Kingy hang around?
I am sure Ross is difficult to work with, most bosses I have ever been employed by are....
I just don't get why it's being made out that this kind of behaviour is exclusive to Ross, and that he tearing the club apart by being driven?

Then there must be plenty of examples. Please provide just a single attribution?rodgerfox wrote:They come from posters on this site.

The quotes are simply there to emphasise inference. But I concede this is unnecessary. Nobody reading this actually believes you have a reputable source.rodgerfox wrote:And why have you used quotation marks around "reliable source"? Are you quoting someone? If so, whom?

Now it's a "reputable source"??
Care to elaborate on what you're talking about here?

Just felt like I was in a time warp back to when GT was in charge and assistants left the club.SainterK wrote:Not sure what you mean?rodgerfox wrote:Have we just flashed back in time to 2006??SainterK wrote: Why would Harves have remained in contact, and then come back....why on earth would Kingy hang around?

That was apparently becuase has was an egomaniac that no one could work with who was too stubborn to change his methods.
Just seemed odd that the same discussion - albeit the opposing view from the same people, is taking place 4 years later!

I can't really remember exactly, how were the Saints travelling at the time GT's assistants left?
