He's a good runner and lets face it, we need speed. He's still young enough to have an impact. He wasn't in Richmonds 22 and they lost every game which does mean one thing, the kid hasn't been too exposed to that blank A4 paper with their gameplan at tigerland.. Don't knock him too early, give him a chance and see where we're at in October.

His parents were my parents neighbors until a few years ago until they moved to their current home and were nice friendly neighbors also, apparently he wanted to come to St Kilda many years ago, finally he has his opportunity!

Best of luck Dean!

He was a little naughty this year, maybe that has helped to wake him up a bit and he convinced Ross he is wanting another chance?

No, I believe it is Fred Perry who are making the limited Dean Polo shirts. They will have a halo above the tradional embroided olive branch insignia.

We got Polo for bugger all. What was he? Pick 421?

Our window is now. We got kids with our best picks. Wasting Pick 421 on some short skinny one trick pony from Bumf*ck, Idaho would have been absolutely pointless...

Polo is worth a roll. Gamble was an absolute no brainer.

agree got them for nothing at the end of the draft when everyone had gone home along with discarded streamers and empty bottles. no real downside. but i cant say it as funny as thinline

I must say I am amazed by several media reports indicating there was an "audible gasp" in the room when Polo's name was called.

He's not a complete dud by any means, he's still quite young and he was taken at pick 103 FFS! If there was any gasping then I find that very insulting to our club, and in particular to Polo himself.

Hang your heads you gasping bastards

As much surprize as when we read out Jimmy Gwilt's number/name?

That shock seems to have worked out ok.

Great quote! Mind if I use that one?

Kit Kats and Freddos. About right too.

Cost-benefit analysis.

In draft terms, he cost peanuts.

So if he turns out to be a monkey, then it's easily affordable.

However, if by some chance based on his junior talent, his excellent 2009, RL's ability to get the best out of blokes coming to their 2nd club, his ability to fill a role, playing within one of the best sides in the AFL next year and some of the issues he had to deal with this year (which won't be around next year) ...... if by some VERY SMALL chance that these circumstances combine to give us a reasonable player in 2010 ...

Then I say it's a risk very well worth taking.

Would rather have picked up Riewoldt III or redrafted Miles or Eddy.

Why would you pick up Riewoldt III? Purely based on his name? Because he definitely does not deserve to be drafted on his ability shown so far.

And we can probably pick up Miles or Eddy in the rookie draft if we want too, otherwise what was the point in delisting them in the first place...

In saying, I'm not really excited about Polo.

A delisted Richmond player taken at pick 103 is never going to excite, and neither he should!

The real question is whether it's a good use of that pick. I think it is, but the reality is that even if Polo never progresses beyond Sandy, we have no possible way of knowing how an alternative pick would have gone.

I dont mind Dean Polo as a player. He always seemed to do well against us. I could'nd understand why he was not playing regularly under Hartwig.

I think his game against us was the reason he got picked
It was basically his career best, so obviously stuck in Lyons' mind
yeah we got him as a bottom of the barrell pick, but if true that we are salary capped out, then a 24yr old 56 game player will always cost twice as much as a 18yr old kid
