Definitely a few players floating around who are worth picking up. Houli and Anthony as well as Bruce.

However how early are the Saints willing to pick them up? Because I'd imagine quite a few teams will be interested.

Would imagine players like Bruce and Anthony will nominate for the pre-season draft, having already secured an agreement from another club.

Both players though should certainly be looked at - No faulting Bruce's quality as a player, and Anthony could certainly fit that third forward role we desire!

However, judging by our lack of action in the trade period and the subsequent stories about our lack of salary cap, one would certainly think that we won't be able to land either player. However, one of Bruce, Fisher, Anthony and Johnstone could certainly be a positive addition to our team!

Our list is old.

We need to get some youth.

Clubs generally discard players for a reason.
Exhibits A, B, C, D
Lovett, Fiora, X Clarke, Maguire

There's a reason Anthony can't pin down a spot at Collingwood despite being one of the best shots on goal in the competition.

He just doesn't go hard enough, and is too easily spoiled.
If he can't get a game at Collingwood why would we play him at St Kilda.

Anthony's time is up.
He will score goals against weak oppositions but not in finals.

We need forwards who go hard at the ball when they go for a mark.
Stanley suffers the same problem but he needs to be given more time.

He cant get a game at the filth, why would he get a game for us.

Bruce? He would be OK but I thought we had enought poofters.

Anthony?

You have to be kidding. He has no defensive (note edited) side, and is a one trick pony that has been worked out.

He'd probably be one of the few married players on our list if we got him!

I think he'd be a great acquisition although I tend to think he's already come to an arrangement with another club.

It's actually sad when a 31 year old puts his heart and soul into a club for 13-14 years and then can't come to an arrangement with that club to finish his career there.

As for Jack Anthony, I agree with you. He's a front runner, has no physical presence and is a complete waste of space. I'd love him to end up at Carlton.

if bruce joined the saints then it would be him going forward. gilbo will never be a good kick at goal so i really hope we aren't forced to try him forward.

Yep, a 21 year old who kicked 50 goals in a season is a terrible offensive player.

Worked out? He hardly played forward this year, mainly in defense when he was in the team. There was no space for him up forward, because Brown was their 2nd ruck and had 90% of the game to play somewhere and they couldn't play all 4 of Anthony, Brown, Cloke and Dawes, without losing a heap of defensive pressure from the forward line.

He provides little forward pressure and that's the problem with him. However with everyone saying how they'd rather get a player who kicks goals than just plays a defensive role (McQualter + Eddy), you'd think most people on here would want him.

I don't know if you have ever watched Bruce play, but his strength is definitely not kicking.

Bruce's manager I'm fairly sure is good old Ricky Nixon, who by all accounts is quite close with the St Kilda management. Not at all suggesting that means he will have any interest in us, or us in him, however the connection certainly doesn't hurt the chances I guess.

In my opinion Bruce would be a good acquisition for St Kilda, Anthony not so much.

Do people actually read what our club has said. We havent got room in the salary cap as advised by the club and unless these players will play for probably less than 150k a year which Bruce obviously will not we cant get him. Would he be good probably as irrelevant as would Ablett be good for us.

really? i haven't seen that written anywhere, though i don't doubt that it might be true. but even if i had read it, i tend not to believe anything the club says in public. they tend to enjoy keeping em guessing. for instance, if we're out of room in the cap then what would we have been if lovett had stayed?

I think it was BOTH the club and the AFL who stated that we are sailing pretty close to the wind. On the Lovett issue, that was for 2010. That money has since been re-distributed amongst the playing group !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

The fact that Anthony is intensely disliked by his team-mates as per the "wedding incident", should ring character alarm bells.

Do we want a destabiliser like that?
Might just as well get Fev.

Source on Twitter has Bruce being a saint. Says he wants to win a flag.

Same source had motlop to saints... Been so so during trade week.

Honestly I didn't see much of Bruce this year. But he is a quality player. Bit old and I think he tagged a bit in 2010. Don't think we need more taggers.

Spyandsouce is the Twitter nmae.

A few lines down also came up with this exclusive

"Hinkley will be named coach of gfc on monday. Board came to decision late last night"

Yeah right

Another opportunity awaits!

yeah, unfortunately reading to the bottom of the page he seems to be about 30% correct:

"Jack Anthony to Sydney is just about a done deal. Appears to be a 2nd round pick exchange"

"Houli off to Tigers for tambling compo pick"

"Essendon to confirm Bomber Thompson in a coaching capacity at Windy Hill in 2011 tomorrow at a press conference"

My apologies..I actually meant to write "defensive" and have edited my post now.

Yes worked out. That and other reasons is why Dawes went passed him, and took his place in the 22.

Brown took Fraser's spot and not Anthony's.

Kosi is copping flak for similar reasons to Anthony.
* Opponents know how to play him
* Lacks defensive side

Both as forwards are very one-dimensional players....and that in a game which is more team oriented than ever before is not a good space to be in unless you are very very good.

I agree Enrico. Don't want Anthony at our footy club.

Bruce I would love to have on a 2 year deal. But as Plugger said, no way we would fit him in the cap.
