Was the big fella? Plugger?
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I hate the fact that JPBFC uses John Peter-Budge's name in his username he was my favourite player as a kid
He used to play for Beverley Hills.

Yeah he was actually. Him and Silvagni both excellent, although SOS was the standout.IluvHarvey wrote:Fair enough then. Harry Lever was Captain of our 1913 losing GF side.
(He captained us again in 1914 before handing over to Dave McNamara mid season.
He bobbed up again as captain after the war in 1918 before handing over to Captain-Coach Wels Eicke in 1919.
George Sparrow was actually the coach in the 1913 finals.
That was the first of his three separate stints as StK coach after relieving the great Dave McNamara mid season 1913.

Couldnt agree more. Admittedly there used to be a few dung heaps in the DDJFL. Park Orchards was IMO the worst.bergsone wrote:Didnt you used to love that muddy centre at BH,East donny now,yes Budge could playjohnpeterbudgefanclub wrote:We used to play junior football against each other all those years ago in the Doncaster Districts Junior Football League.IluvHarvey wrote:Bingo.

Ahhh ok sorry mate for my reply. I didnt know his bro. Obviously being in the same vintage as JPB, SOS, John Blakey and a few others we tended to worry about our own.Bernard Shakey wrote:Keith Peter-Budge, John's brother, who was a better footballer and great musician.johnpeterbudgefanclub wrote:Keith Richards? I had a choice of Collingwood U 19's and Fitzroy U19's and went Fitzroy first.....were a top notch side. Would have been Collingwood because of the father son rule but Fitzroy because of zoning.
Cheers BS.

James Smith?Quixote wrote:I could be wrong but was it Al Smith?JABBER wrote:so no one know who played full back and captained the 1913 grand final
James Smith played a lot of games for us in our first decade, was our Captain in 1901 (part), 1903 (part), 1904 and 1906 and went on to coach us in 1915 and 1918.
But he was definitely retired as a player long before 1913.
As per earlier post Harry Lever was our GF captain and defender.

Re: the ultimate trivia qestion
There was a very strong rumor in the Argus that he would come in for his first game as captain and full back.Quixote wrote:I could be wrong but was it Al Smith?JABBER wrote:so no one know who played full back and captained the 1913 grand final
I think we need to go with Enrico's answer.
