Big calls for 2011
These are my guesses in year that should see one of the most even on record. my big calls for 2011 before a ball has been bounced are:
Geelong the big sliders.
GC Suns finish above Richmond.
Gary Ablett disappointing at Suns Carmichael Hunt the surprise.
Collingwood can't win GF if they put Beams in the big house.
Goddard becomes the AFLs best player.
Saints third time lucky.
Hird the new Tim Watson.
Feel free to incriminate your selves with irrational predictions and have them re read later for others amusement.

Ablett will win the Brownlow in a canter - he's gonna stand out like a sore thumb at a battling but brand new team. Heaps of '2's'. Get on him.
Suns will finish 10th.
Big disappointment - Collingwood who will battle the baby blues and who won't get such a good injury run again. Prelim maybe.
Howl me down - and I admit it's a prediction based half on blind hope - but Kosi will be a revelation in the ruck.
Our second stringers especially Steven, Smith and Miles will take their opportunities and surprise plenty.
I otherwise concur with Gringo, especially re Goddard.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

King will need to be busy over summer then...as Kosi's aatual ruckwork is not that flash...Thinline wrote:

BJ is the competitions best player.
Roo will be the MVP next year.
Geelong will dip..but most likely still make top 4.
Hawks will be better.
Crows will jump up a lot...
Agree that Gablett would be the favourite for the Brownlow as few to take votes off him at GC.
Steven to be the most improved player out of our younger/fringe players.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
I'll have a go
Melbourne the bolters.... end up in the top 4 at the expense of the pies, who have a shocker of a year. Dogs to win by a point in the prelim and play the saints in the Grand Final. BJ norm smith.
First gay player comes out, connected to a pack sex rape allegation. Club goes into melt down and the big headed president quits.
Essendon wins their first 10 games, hird seen a genius and then lose the next 11.....
Football fans complaign about the bye, how they hate not having their team playing.

Geelong will dip, but still finish in the eight.
G.C. Suns to belt Richmond, first game, and the scribes will predict a final eight finish in first season. I think they'll finish between 10th -13th.
Also agree that Steven will be the Saints big improver amongst the young players.
T.Walsh to make AFL debut next season. (early in season)
Essendon, with Bummer Thompson pulling most of the strings to finish in the eight.
Goddard to win the Brownlow, followed by Ablett and Sandilands.
West Coast to continue miserable form. Woosha to be first coach gone mid season.
After 45 years Saints will finally win the G.F. knocking off Hawthorn by 18 points.

Big call Bomber and Hirdy have a fight over a sandwich while attempting to look condescending to the opposition which leads to a punch on in the box.
Collingwood investigated over salary cap breaches.
Pies want urgent review of the interchange as they have more players incarcerated than on the bench.

Oh, I like these ones.
West Coast and Brisbane lose the first 6 games
Mark Williams to be senior coach of Brisbane before the year is out
Collingwood struggle with a lack of depth and 'premiership hangover'
North will be the bolters
Dogs will fall down the ladder, as their leaders lack leadership.
Saints specific....
Armitage secures a spot in the best 22, and stars in the midfield
Roo puts fear into the comp as he reminds people how dominating he can be across an entire season
The "saints have no kids' theory is blown out of the water, as our kids wow the comp.

If we can get our forward line structures working then no reason for us not to up there again in 2011. Other improvers I think could be Adelaide, and Port and maybe Melbourne. I expect the Cats to be in the eight somewhere and the Dogs ,Swans and Carlton to slip. The Gold Coast wont bother the eight for a while.

Geelong will not slide as many suggest and finish top 2.
GAblett walks the brownlow as AD deems it important.
Dane Swan linked with GWS all year but refuses to talk about it till after the season is over.
Malthouse claims he was talking to his own players when seen mouthing the word "Rapist" at quarter time in St Kilda v Collingwood game.

Maybe he was actually talking to Milne in the style of Crocodile Dundee.SinCitySaint wrote:...Malthouse claims he was talking to his own players when seen mouthing the word "Rapist" at quarter time in St Kilda v Collingwood game.
You know, “That's not a Rapist.
(Pointing in the general direction of his own group) That's a Rapist!â€

This is shaping as my all time favourite thread ever! Very good!

Ablett's pale complexion doesn't cut in the Queensland sun. He gets shocking sunburn and is unable to play for half a season.
Collingwood slide down the ladder as half the team sent to prison for a variety of serious charges. Swan then leaves the pies for GWS citing the poor culture at his previous club
Kosi becomes the competition's premier ruckman and Steven and Armo become superstars at StKilda
Williams takes over at Brisbane after Voss's coaching style results in the Lions losing their first 6 games and the resignation of Jonathon Brown.
Moose, Dan Warna, Barks and Yipper make comebacks in the greatest ever saintsational team to take the field in forum footy.

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Re: Big calls for 2011
Here goes my predictions:
SAINTS WIN THE FLAG - Led by it's fearless leaders in Roo, BJ and Lenny
Geelong to remain in the top 4, but will finish 4th
Goddard no 1 - wins MVP and Brownlow
Roo wins Coleman Medal
Collingwood finish 5th (maybe 6th). Just can't back it up, especially with the 'alleged' rape controversy, injuries, new interchange rule and GF hangover
Gold Coast finish 9th on the ladder much to the surprise of all
Gary Ablett has a 'just above average year' performance wise as compared to his last few seasons with Geelong. Struggling to adjust to new team.
Hird has a year worse than all of Knight's years put together but it is still Knight's fault (and will be for the entire time Hird coaches unless they make the 8 )
Brisbane bounce back to make 8th on ladder after pitiful 2009 season - X Clarke and Matty play a big part in their resurgence
Most improved teams will be Adelaide, Richmond and Melbourne
Carlton Coach sacked mid season with Choco or Laidley to replace him

Melbourne and North Melbourne to both make top 6
Alistair Clarkson to be first coach sacked
BJ has a year like Swan, wins every award under the sun apart from the Brownlow which will be won by Sandilands
Geary to finish top 10 in our B&F as he becomes a full time, hard nut midfielder in the Lenny mould
Stanley to be majorly inconsistent, but rip a few games to pieces throughout the year.
Raph Clarke to finish top 5 B&F after amazing season at half back
Gilbert and Riewoldt form an unstopable forward partnership. 150 goals between them.

Riewoldt wins the Brownlow and Coleman and kicks a hundred goals including fifteen in one match.
Goddard takes mark of the millenium (possibly in the grand final) which goes on to become the single most recognised and marketed image of the game for the next fifty years.
Saints win every game and demolish all three opponents in the finals to record the most famous premiership victory ever.
Saints concede zero inside 50s for a quarter on more than one occasion.
