It's a good idea IMO - the scholarship players can train with GWS, they may pilfer one or two along the way but it gives the players an opportunity to gain a higher level of skills and exposure to elite coaches.

The chance to be an overage U18 is also useful too.

Some say Blake Mcgrath is on the verge of being delisted.

Don't know much though...

Basically any decent young player in Sydney trained and played with GWS this year - my club has Collingwood and Freo scholarship holders and they played for GWS most weeks. Nothing to worry about.

Not doubting you for one minute iceman, but does anyone actually know this to be the case?

Or are people simply assuming this based on the fact Blake's been around for a couple of years now without really achieving much?

Yep, unfortunately Blake McG is gone...hopefully he can be picked up again (rookied) by us because as a mate of mine keeps saying 208cm blokes don't grow on trees plus he's a genuinely nice kid.

Plugger66, Blake McGrath and Hutchings from Rookie list, and Pattison from Senior list. Are they to be our only delistings? And is this just your opinion?

Well obviously we have lost Lovett, Smith, King, Fisher and Allen as well so it is 8 all up at this stage.

I keep saying something very similar.

Hope he gets re-rookied.

Plugger66, the other five are retirements, or contracts finished (Fisher and Allen). So Patto only one to be delisted from Senior List? We are keeping Cahill and Johnson? And is it just your opinion?

I have no idea about those other 2 but I would suggest Johnson will be staying as he has another year to go in his contract.

There's some deal, isn't there, where the GWS can grab other clubs scholarship players, provided the player agrees? I believe we would get some sort of compensation, although I'm not sure what it would be.

Aside from Taylor Walker and Craig Bird, has much of anything come out of this program?

Yeah nah pleasing positive

As a former NSW scholarship holder St Klilda can keep him as a rookie for a third year.
As a former NSW scholarship holder he is a special case and does not clog a normal rookie place.
It is a matter of whether the club thinks he is worth the expense.

Just because Jackson Ferguson is on a St Kilda NSW scholarship does not mean he has to become a St Kilda player.
He can turn down a St Kilda offer of a rookie place or even a place on the senior list.
Then GWS can pick him up and he then stays in Sydney.
No doubt GWS would let him know if they wanted him well in advance of any St Kilda offer.
He can also elect to go into the National draft.
The same applies to Kane Murphy.

What about Josh Duncan he is still a scholarship holder and was last year promised a spot on the rookie list this year after having hip problems that he has since overcome and is from what i have been told is in top form after only getting limited time at gws because they were in charge of his rehab and also personal resons. this kid when playing for the nsw in 08and 09 was great we should at least give him a go.
