2011 FIXture ? !!
Normally by this time there are plenty of leaks about the next years FIXture, but not this year.
The only leaks I have heard so far are;
Gold Coast will have a bye in Rd 1
Richmond v Gold Coast (in Cairns?) in Rd 2
And, the FIXture is due out in about a fortnight !!

Won't hapen. I think our contract is for 10 or 11 home games at Etihad. Our only chance of playing more games at the G would be as the AWAY side !!#1GILL wrote:Hope we get some home games at the MCG against the bigger clubs- Pies, Hawks, Richmond, Essendon, Melbourne, Carlton.
Does anyone know if we are contracted to a certain amount of home games at Etihad? Would like to have atleast 5 home games at the 'G.

Apparently Collingwood are getting 18 home games at the MCG with 8 home games leading into the finals and only have to travel interstate 4 times!
Something to do with Demetriou getting extra bonuses for attendance increases on top of the extra $200,000 bonus he pays himself annually each year!

DO THE MATHS AND THE SQUARES ARE ALL ROOTED.
They definitely have a bye round 1, and I'm almost certain that their first game (round 2) is a home game on the GC.jroberts:) wrote:Would they be playing brisbane first round??Beej wrote:Don't see how the Gold Coast would have a bye round 1.
Their opener will be a highlight.
I can't wait to see their first game.

I don't think there are that many interstate trips for the filth - I think you'll find the other four rounds they do their "charity" work by playing away games against The Roos, Dees etc - you know, being good AFL corporate citizens by helping out the AFL's poor relations!barks4eva wrote:Apparently Collingwood are getting 18 home games at the MCG with 8 home games leading into the finals and only have to travel interstate 4 times!

Collingwood have an ongoing contract that has them play 16 games at the MCG (10 or 11 as Home Games), 2 games at Etihad (1 Home & 1 Away or 2 Away) and 4 interstate, including the split Rd in Sydney. I doubt they will ever have to play home games against Port, Gold Coast, Freo, Melb, North, Syd & Bris in the same year ever again !!

Definitely will have the bye in Round 1. The AFL don't want the hype of their first AFL game to get lost in the overall Round 1 build-up. They will play their first match in Round 2 against Richmond at the Gabba.Beej wrote:Don't see how the Gold Coast would have a bye round 1.

Good point, would definately be one of the biggest (hyped) R2 games of recent times...if you lived up that way, and you were an AFL fan (no matter what club), why wouldn't you go check it out?Liam_G wrote:Definitely will have the bye in Round 1. The completed 2011 fixture will be released in late October, although the League has already announced Gold Coast will have a bye in round one.

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

A few points
- Collingwood's agreement is 14 matches at the MCG each year (9 home, 5 away), 4 at Etihad (2 home, 2 away) and 1 match in each of the other four states
- St Kilda have played away from Victoria in Round 1 in 1999, 2005, 2006 & 2010. I don't think we'll have to do that again, although another match v Sydney wouldn't surprise
- GC have bye Round 1, then home game v Richmond @ Gabba Round 2
- Richmond v Carlton @ MCG will open season
What would I like to see?
- No game at AAMI v Port Adelaide (I know I'm dreaming, as this is the usual ANZAC Day Round fixture)
- No game v Brisbane @ Gabba (but no problem with inevitable trip to the GC)
- No more than five games interstate (12 over the last two years)

I thought our contract at Etihad had expired and we were simply playing there under the overall agreement the AFL have with the stadium.Eastern wrote:Won't hapen. But I do agree we wont get many if any home games at the MCG. The AFL have to fixture 'X' number of games at Etihad and that is why we play most of our home games there. However with the CG and GWS coming in I guess there would be an opportunity to give us some more MCG games, especially as most Vic teams will probably play their home games V CG and GWS at Etihad.
