BTW I'm not kidding myself...I agree pubs have the right to refuse entry.
Plus, I am not female or under 30 so I'm pushing the proverbial up hill.
That's fine. Just a bloke in his '40s who wanted to have a quiet drink after the game with his brother.
All I'm saying is: it seems to me Y and Js is trying to attract a younger crowd of 'beautiful people'. So why don't they market themselves as such. Instead they are protected by a heritage listing....not because the building is unique but because of the place Y and Js has in the Hearts of Melburnians. Opposite the 'clocks' of Flinders St station, Diggers drank in their during WWII and every Anzac day for years afterwards. Chloe, etc.
Now they're turning their backs on all that tradition.

In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.

Life is like a joint: the harder you suck the higher you get.
Speaking of iconic pubs, about 4 years ago a bunch of us went to the Waterside Hotel to watch a Saints interstate game, only to be turned away as one of the party was wearing a Saints jumper...in a pub owned by footballers!
They must have relaxed the rule though, as on GF1 eve, a very large gathering of Saints fans in all manner of garb invaded the front bar to share a drink with some of the dedicated fans who travelled from WA and Qld
Not only was noone (that I know of) refused admission for wearing too much Saints clobber, they didnt bat an eyelid when twice we belted out the song with great gusto.
