How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
You'd hope so.plugger66 wrote:Michael Nettlefold.FQF wrote:I reckon Kosi's new contract would be significantly cheaper than what he was previously on.
That frees up some room.
Along with Lovett and a few delistings in King J.Smith L.Fisher Allen Cahill
We might be able to squeeze Tambling in.
Who knows...

Add smith & possibly Walsh to that list too.older saint wrote:May see a lot of clubs, including StKilda drafting players out of VFL, SANFL , WAFL this seaosn, especially after round 1. Plenty of players not draftedin last couple yeras go there and their bodies mature and then are better prospects.
Even our list Fisher, Jones, Stanely cam from SANFL or WAFL and have / are developing nicely. There will be plenty more out there also may just take a little longer.
the other thingis Stkilda have drafted a lot of young 18 years olds/ 17 year olds in last couple years so they will take a little longer.
No reason IMO why Steven, Stanley, Miles, Simpkins cannot be the next Mccaffer, Blair, Brown, etc in 2011.
This is what is exicting to me..... We have the core of top-liners, also add Raph Clarke, Gilbert to go forward, and these young players gives us 2 to 3 years of a premiership window.....

Unfortunately the AFL refuses to change the rules to reduce the number of players from 22 down to 16.borderbarry wrote:If we dont get rid of our "bottom 6" how are we going to improve?
That means we can not just get rid of the bottom 6.
They have to be replaced and that means with 6 players who are not even in the best available 22 at the moment.
Don't kid yourselves, this draft has already been compromised.
Gold Coast has already been allowed to take 12 players who would normally have been available in this draft.
Our first pick 24 is equivalent to pick 36 in an uncompromised draft.
That's an early 3rd round pick in a normal draft.
St Kilda will get dregs out of this draft.
At least our main rivals will fare not much better.
St Kilda and our main rivals have to live with what they have got for at least 2 years before gaining any access to quality.

Fellow Sainters, I reckon this 'special situation' of the compromised draft suits US more than anyone else. It's like the old days of the VFL!
Think about it. We already have a pretty good list compared to at least 12 other clubs. The bottom clubs are not going to get those star players in the draft that could really improve them, so they probably won't move up much. And do you really think Gold Coast will immediately be top 4 next year?
That means we will be top four again, and ready for another tilt. We could end up playing the Doggies in the GF, who will be 'rabbits in the headlights' in their first GF since 1961! Result: inevitable win to the Saints. I don't care how ugly it is...it could be easy in the end.

To summarise comments so far:
1) Our depth is non-existent
2) We have the least talent of any of the top 8 teams
3) Our list is that of a 9th placed team on the AFL ladder (I kid you not - David King & Gerard Healy)
4) We don't develop our younger players (as they are not worth developing) so therefore stick to the older bodies
How we didn't win the spoon this year has me amazed! With the summaries of our team list (which has beaten every top 8 team - Collingwood included) it is almost enough to have you slitting your wrists such is the commentary on how dire a predicament we are in.

Mail I got this arvo is Kosi has been thrown up for Jacobs.Teflon wrote:just read this - anyone know anything bout this guy?
St Kilda look to trump deal for Sam Jacobs. Stacks of interest in Goldsack. Whispers suggest another Lion may want out of the den.

Without being rude because he is at the moment a Saints player, I dont even count him.Spinner wrote:Patterson delisted?plugger66 wrote:How many ruckmen do we actually want. This either means Kosi is being traded or MG is retiring or both.Legendary wrote:Jacobs would be a great pickup.
Very good tap ruckman, good in the hitouts, and also gets quite a lot of the footy around the ground.

The comments people make on this forum are not necessarily the truth. You cannot be serious that we should have won the spoon. NO clubs have unbeatable lists any more. That's the point of the draft, salary cap and national competition.
Plus, a list is not everything. For example , Geelong will still have a pretty good list on paper in 2011 but I believe they will dive down the ladder. New coach, players getting older etc.
