Gardiner, 31, who missed Saturday's grand final after tearing a hamstring a week earlier, is scheduled to enter hospital this month for several operations.
He requires shoulder surgery and an operation on his right elbow to remove floating bone chips, but of most concern will be radical stem-cell treatment for a chronic knee complaint which has restricted his mobility, particularly his ability to jump, for most of the season.............

.Lyon said he would persevere more with Sam Gilbert as a forward next year with the availability of defender Raphael Clarke, who missed the second half of the season with a serious hamstring injury.
Gilbert, who has played almost all his career in the back line, impressed as a forward in the second half of the drawn grand final and was again an influence in attack in the second term last Saturday. But the Saints failed to reap full value from his run when he booted three points from very gettable shots on goal.
"Just as we brought James Gwilt on this year, we will give more opportunities to Jack Steven, David Armitage, Rhys Stanley, Nick Heyne and Tom Simpkin," Lyon said.
He said the Saints would concentrate on adding to their list by recruiting teenage talent in next month's national draft
St Kilda is paying close to 100 per cent of its salary cap, leaving the Saints with little opportunity to recruit players from rival clubs in this week's player-exchange.
"The by-product of retaining a strong core group of players is that we don't have much room to move, but that's been by design to keep all our better players," Nettlefold said.

Unless they're writing stories about Luke Ball/StKilda/Collingwood - then they are apparently just making it upsaintbrat wrote:can we / have we arrangements for The Australian to do all our media......

I also hope he hasn't forgotton Luke Miles, this guy is ready to play a huge role in replacing Baker, Blake in the backline and is quicker and kicks better then both of them.
Miles in the backline helps to push Gilbert into the forward line & keeps Goddard in the midfield.
The one player I would like to trade for is Paul Bevan, he can play the ideal defensive forward that Ross like and he can kick a goal like he did in the final against Carlton and he is also a very good mark. All the skills McQualter & Eddy don't have.
2011 forward line:
Milne Stanley Snieder
Bevan Roo Gilbert
More balanced between talls / smalls and more attacking.

As with the previous comment from saintlee, I don't think Ross is neccessarily forgetting or discarding anyone. I think he's just throwing names up off the cuff.Rice Paper wrote:I also hope he hasn't forgotton Luke Miles, this guy is ready to play a huge role in replacing Baker, Blake in the backline and is quicker and kicks better then both of them.

Anyway, the blokes who will be pushing up next year are the ones who shine in the pre season, NAB Cup and early Sandy games. If that includes Miles and Lynch they'll obviously be considerd.

I'm not averse to Bevan. I've always thought of him as a player.
But Gardi shouldn't go around again.
But Gardi shouldn't go around again.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

there's a guy by the name of stanley and he's handy. but yeah, dunno what the future holds for tom lynch maybe just another year or two of magoos until milney hangs up the boots, who knows.saintlee wrote:Interesting he didn't mention Tom Lynch as a player to get more opportunities....given our forward line issues, you'd think he might get a look in...

How the hell do we go into games with McEvoy, Kosi and a one-year older Gardi, with only 3 + a "sub" on the bench from next year? Plus hopefully Stanley?
I think they have to make a call between Gardi and Mac, who were both relatively ordinary in their GF's. Hopefully Mac will be better again next year, while Gardi will be one year older.
Surely Kosi has to ruck now, meaning, at best, one of Gardi or Mac on the bench/rotating out of the forward line. Maybe Gardi just gets kept as "back-up", like King was for most of this year.
