I owe the club nothing and the club owes me nothing.

I support the club because I love it and sometimes .. the hurt is too much.

That was the case yesterday.

I was there in 71,97,09 and this week and I have shed too many tears to sit and endure the last quarter just as a point of honour.

I hurt.

Walking outside in the last quarter I did with no shame or guilt and I will not accept that from others who stayed.

I walked out a broken man

Sorry but I don't agree with you on this at all, how about the lack of passion our boys showed yesterday for the jumper. There was nothing from them what so ever, they didn't show up yesterday, they didn't even put up a fight.
When they were getting belted around by the Collingwood players, they never fought back. I thought when they did try a little in the second qrt I thought there is going to be a punch on any minute. I thought OUR players are going to get sick of being pushed around and start to fight back...... Fight back they didn't, they didn't show a bloody thing. Not one jumper punch, not one wrestle on the ground, NOTHING!

You can't blame the supporters leaving at 3/4 time, 1000's of us had, had enough of what we were witnessing. Didn't help the passion and aggression coming from the Pies fans.

I was up in the top tier of the Ponsford and I've never left a game early, but I could see it starting to kick off with the filth section to our right, so I pulled the pin and left after 5 mins of the 4th with my 11 year old boy. He doesn't need to see that shyte going on.

The bonus was the train home was filth free and the mass of Saints fans could be left alone with our grief.

I have never left a StKilda game before the end - ever.
But today I walked out at the 20 min mark.
Just couldn't take the pain anymore.

Now I feel ashamed.
On reflection I don't feel ashamed now.

Last year we put up a noble (if inaccurate) fight.
Last week we were superb in our comeback.
This week we were pathetic.

The pain of two unlucky incidents costing us two premierships in two years and then to see the way we were capitulating was too much to take.
I showed my solidarity by attending the family day today,
but I am more than happy that I wasn't subjected to the inevitable scenes that must have accompanied the final siren.
I don't need that to motivate my passion for a premiership - attending 5 non winning GFs is more than enough!

To anyone else who also left early - hold your heads up and don't be ashamed.

It's sad to see how many fans start beating their chests and posturing about anyone who leaves a game early. As if taking up "bragging rights" about staying around somehow alters the result of the GAME!
I'm now 65 and bend my knee to NO ONE!!!!!!!! But I'm pragmatic enough (and hopefully wise enough) to realise that having small grandkids and two daughters with me gave me the responsibility to act with their safety and comfort paramount. Damn straight I left at the siren! I"m not stupid enough to sacrifice the welfare of my loved ones on the altar of MY ego!
I've been a follower of Football in England for long enough to know how ugly a crowd can get, and to anyone who equates MY passion with time attended after a game does not know ME ...and I don't want to know THEM!!!!

I went to the bar about 5 min into the last. Had a beer with a random saints supporter. I left right on the siren.

I'm not sure why people get so upset about trivial s*** like this.

When it comes down to it, I couldn't care less if the Fan left after Lionel Ritchie.

Because hey - we were made to look terrible yesterday and we have missed our chance - that's what I'm getting upset about.

Dude, you were not even there so how can you bag others who made the effort to front up two weeks in a row.

It's a personal decision to leave and everyone handles it differently.

Strength through Loyalty - If the players I follow and support have to stay and go through it then so will I. I can only imagine the mayhem caused if A saints player lost his sh!t and walked off the ground half way through the last quarter, but it wouldn't happen as its their job to perform, as it is our job to SUPPORT!

I stayed, through it all, to the final end. Did it hurt? It absolutely destroyed me but did you guys see BJ's face after the game? Imagine how he felt! Nothing we feel can compare. The presentation hurt, but when we finally win the holy grail it'll be that much sweeter as we will remember the feeling of the opposition getting medals and our boys sitting in despair

..My two cents

The players get PAID to perform and play the game and NOT walk out.

The fans PAY to see a performance and pay a decent some of money.

It is a fans choice whether they choose to stay or go and it is not an option for the players to do like wise.

Why don't you apply to the AFL for a special medal to be struck to the supporters that stayed :?:

Or maybe just get it tattooed on your forehead

FFS get a grip, it is an option that a fan have and not a player.

I had a similar disagreement when my family left with about 5 mins to go during the twilight game on the Monday against Carlton.

My point is still valid.

I hung around until the end...I can't walk out early...never have and never will. And yeah, the Pies fans just took those vacant seats anyway.

we all have valid points, our personal preference and opinions differentiate us. As I said, I personally wouldn't and I think it is our job to support them through thick and thin.

You'd rather get into a slinging match and abuse a follow Saint fan. Is it that hard to get your point across without blatant name calling?

lol at "name calling"

Go search back to May 10 and see the name calling for supporters that left before the siren.

This is not a "slinging match" but more about getting a grip

I'm pretty loud and fanatical at the best of times at Saints games. I left at 3/4 time, the pain of last year was unbearable and I admired Geelong at the time. I still have memories and flashbacks whenever the Crows song comes on after 97.

This year, I had a filth supporter stirring me up in my ear behind me bagging anything St Kilda including Lenny and BJ of all people! I just couldn't bear to watch the filth rub our nose in it, my hatred for them is possibly on the same level as my love for the Saints.

I'm an MCC member and if I'd stayed a minute longer, losing my MCC membership would have been the least of my worries if I'd unleashed on that filthy filth supporter! It was the longest and possibly worst day of my life, and I've had some shockers over the time!

This sums me up too… The risk of me smashing someone in the face is too great. In the H&A rounds, I celebrate any Pies loss like a Saints win, inversely I suffer even more when we lose to those pack of toothless f-wits.

I went to the bar early in the 4th. Didn't see Collngwood lift the cup just saw the outsiders who didn't have a ticket run in when the gates opened lol.

Fans can go whenever they want. 4th Grand Final I've watched now and no win for the saints yet. Looks like the Drawn GF is and will be closest for a long long time we got to.

Exactly why me and my friends left at 3/4 time, if it was the cats or anyone as a matter of fact we would have stayed to the end.
It started when the scum drowned out Wilba it shows they have respect for no one but their own, picking on my friends 12 yo son in the toilet cause he had number 12 on his jumper, they are scum, no if buts or maybes, there was no way I was going to be there when to watch em gloat at winning.

No St.Kilda member deserved that effort.

I wouldn't hold it against anyone who bailed before stumps.

This club asks a lot of its members and to be honest, we are often left wanting. For example, I never received my daughters membership pack this year.... Nice one. No explanation..."its in the mail".

Not to mention on field.

Or even all the off field crap, that I continually find myself defending. Time after time. I think that annoys me the most. I f****** hate defending moronic footballers.

So with all that in mind, you front up with the hope they are going to win a premiership finally, and you have that performance rammed down your throat.

Then someone bitches at you for leaving early? Go flog yourself.

And then we all rock up again next year....and do it all over again.

Maybe.

Aren't we forgetting that we beat 14 other teams to be there today, the boys deserve to be congratulated for that.
I don't think you can have a go at supporters leaving early. I paid $270 to watch absolute sh*t from the players today. I stayed until the 25 minute mark, as i couldn't bare to listen to the song at the end of the game.
Exactly.

Never understood the moral high ground people take about staying until the end. Scarred enough as it is,let alone to have witness human trash in raptures. The players have there massive pay cheques and perks to fall back on,we supporters have a broken bank balance and broken hearts

I completely understand, we flew back from London last year (2 return flights $3000, 2 GF tickets $500). This year my bf flew back (1 return flight $1600, 1 GF ticket $235), he then paid $140 to change the flight, stayed another week in Melbourne (thankfully for free with friends) and then paid another $240 for the replay ticket. But he's a loyal supporter and I don't think any amount of money would stop him (obviously). I can only be upset at the AFL for charging so much second time round.
