Do we trade a big name player? If so whom??
We need to bring some quality into the team...how do we do this without trading a big name? Do you think we need to? And if so whom?
I would think the following big names could be considered for the right price:
1. Kosi
2. Gram
3. Dal
4. Milne

A lot have been saying this for months, but Kosi simply has to go - couldn't care if he is contracted, he is simply not up to it.
Milne - depends on whether 2 goals a game from 12 odd possessions is enough for a small forward. Will a replacement do any better? Unsure.
Gram - deserves to stay I think. Was hampered by injury, no doubt. Is vital for his pace when he is right.
Dal - another hampered by injury, but can be very frustrating. Has played 3 very ordinary GF's now, and at times seems to lack intensity and interest.
Some difficult decisions need to be made...

Please...let's win a Premiership before GEELONG!!!! (O.k., so we've missed that opportunity...maybe let's win the next one before Geelong????)

theres no point trying to put kosi up for trade, i doubt any club is foolish enough to pick him up.
but yes, Dal, Gram and Milne have to go.
Mqualter, Eddy, Schneider, Dempster...their all very close i think.
what the club had to do it take a good look at our list and decide who can take this club to their second premiership, and those above players never will.

"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."
Bit surprised with the Dal and Gram comments.
Dal was clearly injured and was still kicking on his non-preferred foot for most of the game.
Gram was clearly injured early yesterday and aggravated an old injury the week before. I DEFINITELY would not be touching either of those.
Milne and Schneider - you are delusional. No hope of having an impact yesterday but have done wonderfully throughout the rest of the season (including the other finals).
McQualter has some serious question marks.
Dempster is just a good mid range player. These add to the 'depth' that is required if others go down through injury.
Kosi - Couldn't stand to see him at another club. Just resigned for 2 more years so not going to happen anyway.
The key for next year is not to cut what is there as we have a few leaving anyway, it is to add to what we have got. You don't throw everything away in a fit of temper tantrum. You walk away, reassess and then do it differently and shape it differently. Trade week should be very interesting.

Even suggesting trading Gram and Dal Santo is absolutly stupid.
Both are well in our best 22 and were clearly playing injured and IMHO shouldnt have played.
I dont belive we should trade much if anything. We have a lot of good young players on our list who are ready and will be put back yet again if we trade our good players and recruit jobbers from other clubs that cant get a game.
Being reactionary like this will cost us more than a premership.

I think you are being too hard on Milne he has had a great season and without him we wouldn;t have even got to the finals.
Kosi is really disappointing though I keep expecting him to fire and he doesn't
Gram hopefully will be better next year I am not sure he is not injured.
I think in the big picture it is injuries that have cost us more in these finals especially the GF.

What I think we are all forgetting is there is nothing much to trade for. GC have the top picks and every other team is desperately trying to sign up their players to stop GC taking them.
So with a draft that is going to be heavily dominated by GC for the next 2 years followed by GWS, it is going to be slim pickings in regards to quality young kids and there doesn't appear to be many 'quality' players floating around at this stage either. If we traded all the players mentioned, we will not be getting anything much of substance in return for them.
I have heard that we are interested in Dean Cox. Wish we had have gotten him when GT went after him. Not sure of the value of him now.

We have 2 years to try to snag a Premiership. We trade away our best players, we go backwards. We were injured and got more injuries in the game and kicked like a donkey all day. We need to do what the Pies did with their recruiting. Find some guys that add depth for bargain prices
Tweaking the game plan while adding speed would be the preferred option.
We can reload and fight our way back, hope a satiated Collingwood is off next year.

Totally disagree that we need more really quality players. What we need are players with a 5-10% improvement on the likes of Eddy, Peake, McQualter, and perhaps Dempster to name a few. Where our improvement needs to come from is players like this, how many superstars do Collingwood have?
Would be a disastrous mistake to trade any of the players mentioned in the OP, we need to be building around this core, which we have been and we're now close to completing...not get rid of it!

We need to keep our first round pick no matter what for a up and comer kid hopefully a mid with pace. But after that i reckon we will trade, the first 30 picks r good and then it falls away.
We need another quick mid -Tambling,Grigg,Sherman
another kp backman-Everitt,Thusfield,Tarrant
3rd tall-Mckinley,gamble,Miller.
We do have good players to break in the side Smith,Steven and Armitage for midfield.
Walsh,Heyne,Lynch and stanley forward.
Simpkin,Miles down back.
I reckon Gardi will go around again and give Big ben another year to learn the craft.
My ideal list managent would be try and get the likes of Tambling,Everitt and McKinley to fill holes and add depthand all 24 and under.Use first round pick on a pacy midfielder.Give our other kids a go not one game here and one game there give them a guarantee and backing.
And say thankyou for what youve done but c u later to-Mini,Dempster,cahill,Baker and Kosi.

If Gardi does not play on...Mitch Clark. But form a queue for him..
I mentioned Mitch Clark in an post early last week and was flamed for it.
Brennan should be a superstar but is too inconsistent. I would have faith in Ross to bring the best out in him. Unfortunately, he seems to be GC bound.....

What the club has to do is be really honest with itself and ask whether this group is going to win a premiership. With the mental scarring they're going to have from 3 missed chances in 12 months, you'd have to say that's highly unlikely. It would take an absolutely extraordinary effort to do so. It's certainly possible, but a huge ask.
Everything has to go right to win a flag. Last year we had almost the perfect season. We lost only 2 games for the year going into the GF (by a total of about 6 points) and had the best run with injury imaginable and still didn't get it done. This year we had the loss from last year driving us and had a pretty good run with injury and were found well wanting in the end. Threw it away something shocking and looked old and tired.
Now this group is likely to have major mental scarring to have to deal with, as if it's not hard enough to win a flag without that. Our list is also 27yo on average, which is not ideal.
If we don't believe this group has what it takes to get it done (and on the way we've choked to lose the two GF's, it's massively unlikely), then we surely need to go hard at the trade table this week.
Turn the list over in a pretty significant way and get some fresh faces in here, who won't have all the baggage that our 22 from yesterday will have. Not necessarily all "kids", but fresh blood who we believe will help our cause.
Start again, to a degree and be open to pretty much anything. The only ones I'd say are off limits are BJ, Fisher, Lenny and many of those under 22. And get some guys who can bloody well kick.
As you may have noticed, I haven't put Roo's name there.
The simple fact is, he's been a part of our team that has played in 5 finals series in 7 years and we still haven't won one, despite being extremely close in probably 4 of those years. He's obviously been a huge part of the reason we've done so well, but is also one of those who hasn't gotten it done in the very biggest games of all and he may not do so. The mental baggage is surely accumulating. We proved, when he was out of the team in the middle of the year, that we can win without him.
He also, of course, carries the most "currency". If we realise that this group isn't going to get it done, do we just continue to say "well, we got close" and just continue to be thereabouts, knowing we're not going to win one, or do we take a step back and start over, at least to a degree.
The Gold Coast are apparently trying to lure one more "big fish" and have a stack of first round draft picks to play with, so this is a time where you could get maximum benefit from a trade. They apparently have 5 of the first 7 picks (including the first 3) and may be willing to part with two of them, for someone that's good enough. Pick 7 is where guys like Joel Selwood, Jimmy Bartel, Daniel Rich, Rhys Palmer have been drafted and we know how good those in the first 3 can be. Guys like Hodge, Ball and Judd, Scully, Trengove and Dustin Martin, etc, etc. They can make an immediate impact, as the last 3 showed this year and this year's crop is supposed to be pretty damn good.
This is probably our best chance to trade one "aging gun" for two likely "young guns", who could make an impact as early as next year. Or maybe two for 4, which would give us a huge shot at winning one in about 2-3 years, while guys like Goddard are still going strongly.
We are surely at a crossroads. It would be very easy and safe to just keep going the way we're going, and be "thereabouts", without winning, but as the saying goes, "if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten" and I for one am sick of coming up short.
We need to be really honest with ourselves and brave, or we're mo more likely to win a premiership than fly to the moon.

I don't think our list can improve enough to win a flag, even if we trade for the likes of a Salopek.
I agree the only player on that list with any currency is Dal, but at best he's a late first round pick.
Kosi, at VERY best we'll get a second round pick and a fringe player.
Gram, second round pick. Milne, getting old. Again, second rounder at best.
Hopefully I'm proven wrong, but I think it's time to rebuild and it may be a long phase.
