Its 2010 you would think they would own their own equipment.

cheapskates!

Stokes is happy to pocket 10 mill in advertising, but can't be farked organising a HD telecast.

Agree it's a joke.

Doesn't effect me, as my HDD recorder is SD only and I'll be at the game.

In 2010 no Television networks own their own Outside Broadcast equipment.

Theres only a limited amount of HD OB gear in the country and it, and the 3D equipment, is being used for the NRL Grand Final (and on the cycling I think)

Is their a reason why their is only a limited amount available, is it to with costings?

I'll be happy enough to watch the low definition replay about 30 times until the club puts out the official DVD. :D

There are two main companies that TV Netowrks employ for OB's, Global and Gearhouse. If you'd driven down Brunton Ave late last week you'd have seen two huge trucks parked there, one from each company. They both have the capacity to broadcast in HD, but you cant just book a HD OB truck with associated cameras etc on a weeks notice. As I said, its not money, its jus that the gear was booked to be used elsewhere this weekend.

Actually with the multitude of sports happening around the place at the moment (Cycling, NRL GF, Comm Games, Racing and preperation for Bathurst) Id think that crewing tomorrows coverage would have given Ch 7 more than a few heartaches. A LOT of the crew are casual/freelance, and would have been booked for other jobs this weekend

so because they are not hiring the HD equipment should save 7 bucketloads of cash, provided they don't have to bribe freelance labor camerman with huge $$$ to film it of course!

Does this mean it won't be filmed in HD or it won't be televised in HD?

I need an excuse to buy a bluray player and watching a Saints Premiership would be perfect

I was going to outline why, but saint66au has got it all completely covered.

The 2 x HD Global trucks (one was 3D) and the 1 x HD Gearhouse truck used last weekend were all booked for use this coming weekend. The NRL Grand Final is where the most HD capable trucks have headed. Crewing has been an even bigger nightmare for Gearhouse/Seven Network, with the majority of the regular AFL crew either in Geelong this weekend for the Cycling, or booked to head off to Delhi for the Comm Games.

Unfortunately, SD Gearhouse trucks are all that is available for this week at such short notice. It has nothing to do with anybody not wanting to front the money. If OB hardware was available, then it would have been a repeat of last week's HD/3D dual broadcast.

Logical to conclude there will be no Fox Sports HD replay either, in that case?

That's a real shame actually. Makes a huge difference, particularly if we win it :)

This makes me favor extra-time even more now ;)

Next GF we're not involved in, I'm going to get the boys together and we're going to watch it in 3D at a cinema.

In England a few pubs/bars show football in 3D, would be interesting to have a few drinks and watch a game like that.

Though it would be strange seeing a group of p1ssed men shouting at the tv wearing those ridiculous goggles.

Couldn't they just fly in equipment from overseas?

Who would fly it in? Unfortunately, it is a lot more complicated than simply flying in some equipment. We are talking about trying to replace the two largest and most advanced $15m+ HD broadcast trucks in Australia, which were both used last weekend, with only a few days notice. It's frustrating, but simply nothing is available this weekend. Certainly not here. And not from overseas on only 4-5 days notice, if at all.

Oh don't worry, the 5D brain chip will give the picture the full justice it deserves!

If we win, I won't give a rats arse if I have to watch the replay in Black & White.

If we do win, I'll collect the GF1 & GF2 set, and probably view the whole experience as an 8 quarter thriller.

But if we loose, I wont be watching, so I don't care about the resolution.

A bit off topic, for those that were sitting at home last saturday like me , when 7 continually crossed to their "better than live 3D shed" did anyone notice Micheal Klim was in the shed? And they were making it seem like everyone there was watching the grandfinal.

Then during the actuall grandfinal when showing the crowd they showed Micheal Klim at the game.

Seroiusly? You can see Klim screaming at goals in the replay.

Maybe its reason #345 why there will never be another GF replay again IMO
