Far out, Allan Jeans would've been a fair motivator back in the day, eh?

If he spoke to his players like that in 1966, it's really not surprising we won the flag.

Hafey doesn't really get into it. Kinda spoils it.

Barassi as well.

Edit those two out and leave Kennedy and Jeans.

If it is to be, it is up to me.

Jeans is just gold, isn't he. Such an angry, determined little man.

Found myself tapping the keyboard with a little more venom after all that!

Yeah, Jeans is pretty good...the others might have trouble motivating me. "Just do something"? What?

Often think about that and picture myself in the huddle poking my tongue out at him. When he asks I just say 'doing what I'm told, coach'...

Sounds like something my High School footy coach would have said to me, followed by "ANYTHING!".

Which reminds me, I was at a local finals match once, where my mate was an assistant coach. We went onto the ground for the 3/4 time address, where the coach produced:

"OK fellas, we're in front, we've played 3 good quarters, but it's time to deliver. You've laid the foundations, you've built the floor, you've raised the walls, BUT YA WOULDN'T LIVE IN A HOUSE WITHOUT A ROOF WOULD YA? IT'S TIME FOR THIS TEAM TO PUT ON THE ROOOOF!!!"

I had a quiet chortle to myself as we walked off, my mate rans past and whispered "he's a roofing contractor".

Was at past-players dinner last year before the GF. Jeansy was guest of honour. Lucky enough to sit on his table. Quiet unassuming man, but full of insight. Couple of times raised the tone during our chat, I thought, hang on, where did that come from.

Then he got up and spoke, he just unleashed it, wow! That room of old blokes probably could have won last years GF after that speech.

I have absolutely no doubt that RL is capable of pulling something like this out.

Very quiet and reserved in front of the camera, but I reckon he could unleash fury behind closed doors.

And Rooey wouldn't be far behind....

I've watched this about eight times.

Jeans is the one I'd follow into battle. I never had him down as a great orator, but having seen this I have a better understanding of why St Kilda ... and later Hawthorn ... players would have taken a bullet for him.

All four are remarkable men.

How many premierships between them?
