There's a lot of blind faith in football.
What makes them think he'll be any better a coach than his predecessor?

Never EVER. Unequivocally NO. How many times do I have to make myself heard. NO. Under NOOOO circumstances. NO WAY. Are you people even listening. I am NOT going to coach Essendon. Absolutely not. Stop asking me. It's a waste of energy. I'm not the man for the job. NO. N. O. NO!
Okay. I'll do it.
Okay. I'll do it.

On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Not that it matters what I think, but I've lost a lot of respect for him to be honest. I reckon he's been a sneaky fly in the ointment for way too long.
That said I'm happy the Bombers will be an AFL recluse for another decade.

Careful, we've appointed Banger midfield coach. I guess the risk is less, and the credentials are there to some extent, but didn't think Carlton's coaching staff would be in high demand outside the Blues.markp wrote:No place for sentiment in appointing a coach... he'll probably go about as well as Voss.
I'm hopeful that Figjam will drive his shiny new machine straight into a wall when they hand him the keys in a year too....
All good for us.

There's a massive difference between an assistant and a head coach, and they're much easier and less of a disruption to get rid of.degruch wrote:Careful, we've appointed Banger midfield coach. Fancy that, Hird, Buckley and Voss (if he can hang on) all coaching in 2012.
Not to mention Sheedy.
Give me Ross Lyon ANY day of the week.

We wouldn't have ROOEY or KOSI!

Ross is head and shoulders the best coach in the league.
Malthouse is a good statistician, and quite a decent coach.
Bomber is good to average. With the list he had, it would have been impossible to fail. I mean, only two flags from 4 years of dominance is not a great return.
Rocket seems incapable of taking a team to a flag.
Roos was brilliant, but is now not coaching. Ross is clearly his predecessor. Maybe Longmuire will be too...
Other than that...
Harvey and Hardwick seem like they know what they're doing as young coaches.
Clarkson had one good year, but a less than 50% win ratio.
Craig is a bit of an enigma. Nothing special.
I think Ratten is well out of his depth too.
Not sure about Worsfold. Won a flag... so credit there. But had a top class list.
It is crazy seeing Voss Hird Ratten and the like coaching teams whilst Roos is retired. He could win another flag at least with many top 8 teams.
Verdict: We are absolutely BLESSED to have Ross at the helm.

Re: Hird to coach Bombers
True, and I haven't heard the old 'tanked their way to success' excuse trotted out for a while, I'm sure it will resurface with a win next week.OhMyGoddard wrote:Lets applaud Timmy for winning those spoons!degruch wrote:Tim Watson?bigcarl wrote:There's a lot of blind faith in football.

I'd say Malthouse's long-jeopardy probably puts him ahead of Ross, only because he has shown that he can consistently re-build sides and take them deep into the finals.FQF wrote:Damn straight.dcstkfc wrote:Fancy that, Hird, Buckley and Voss (if he can hang on) all coaching in 2012.

Here is my coaches ladder:
1. Roos
2. Malthouse
3. Lyon
4. Craig
5. Clarkson
6. Harvey
7. Eade
8. Thompson
9. Bailey
10. Worsfold
11. Voss
12. Ratten
Too early to judge on the others but Scott and Hardwick both did well in their first year.
If Rossy can keep us up for as long as Roos managed with Sydney, he will become number one.
