Who would have thought that a pair of boots would cause such a stir.

Gentlemen please, grow up, we have half of a 2 week GF to talk about. Is that not enough.

Maybe this year?

In another thread you mentioned that Ray had a shocker.... Good call. Only played the most important shut down role of his career against the form midfielder in the competition. Good call. Great call.

And you call me a wanker. Have a look in the mirror. Did you even watch the game?

Where on this thread did I abuse Brett Peake in any other way but being critical of his game?

You certainly don't think before you post. Perhaps at least read the whole thread before just launching in. Best to go off with all the information.

One day life might teach you that. I hope that doesn't sound condescending.
I think you'll find that in that other thread I said Ray was excellent in shutting down Swan in the second half.
I did watch the game and have watched it twice since. Did you read my comments on Ray, or just think that's what I said

Rubbishing a player for the colour of his boots in this day and age is just ridiculous. You obviously follow the game more closely than me. I couldn't care less what colour boots anyone wears and to notice a change of colour for one player in the last quarter is great observation on your part. Did anyone else change their boots during the game?

I don't think the OP is talking about the colour of Peake's boots. If Peake wore the same pair but in a different colour, obviously they would still have the same feel.

However, if he used a completely new pair of boots which he hadn't previous worn in a game of footy, which is what I believe the OP is alluding to, then you have to wonder why he would mess around with that.

Boots to a professional footballer are like a putter to a golfer, a racquet to a tennis player, a bong to a Collingwood supporter - they're very personal and you need to be familiar with the weight and feel etc.

Now, someone will say, "come on, they could still play good footy with a sh1tty pair of Slazengers" and, while that may be true, the difference between hitting and missing a target could be a matter of inches. We're dealing with fine margins so something as simple as boot selection could easily be that difference.

An AFL GF is probably not the place to be wearing a pair of boots for the first time.

Players have many pairs of boots.

It is not just color that can set them apart.

One big difference will be the studs/blade pattern.

What boot a player wears ina match will depend on wet/dry and conditions of the surface (thatch/hardness).

After the sole there are another range of variabls.

Now our last few games have been in the wet. Saturday was perfect.

Prior to that it was mainly on the very hard docklands.

So you will see players in different boots. What pairs Peake wears at training who knows...as it is closed.

Also on color...you can have the exact same boot in different colors.

Hey you got personal buddy.

Start calling people names and you will get the same in return.

Again you miss my point. Completely miss my point. It's not the colour of the boots that I care about...at all. He switched the type of boot. For the first time all year.... For the biggest game of the year. Why would you do that?

I'm amazed that you missed him changing his boots at the three quarter time huddle, since they had him on camera doing it. Thought you might catch that if you watched the replay twice.

I couldn't care less what boots he used if he performed. But he didn't perform. And I question his decision making and its timing.

How would you know he switched the type of boot, for the first time all year? Have you been stalking Peake's boots, or are you a cobbler by trade?

Yeah I'm a cobbler.

Every now and then, after I go to bed at night, the elves, they come into my store and cobble together an extra special pair.

But I do have every game from this year on my PC here so it is easy for me to check.

You are just clutching at an argument now, especially after the last couple of posters explained it so well.

While often spotted in white ones this year..

Not clutching at all, just trying to understand how these boots have captured your imagination so much. His game wasn't that bad. His disposal was and usually is bad. Maybe he thought the boots would improve his kicking.

I have not seen an image of his GF boots.

Were they still Under Armour, or were they a different brand?

Righto. If you cannot understand yet then really you are just fishing for an arguement and I am feeding a troll.

6 kicks and 2 handballs isn't a bad game for him? That is half his average output for the past five games including two finals.

6 tackles is a good and I have mentioned earlier he was ok defensively in the second half in particular. Not a very good game from him.

So I had a quick peek through my library here and it looks like he has used the same moulded sole boots for the past five weeks.

Same as what he changed into @ 3/4 time. Even for the two MCG games with some wet weather.

Went back as far to Round 20 against the Kangas at the dome. One of the photo links above is interesting...its from training two weeks ago.

Fascinating.

Seeing as he was training in Under Armours two weeks ago, I'd hope he wore them yesterday.

BTW, that youtube in your sig isn't the best advert for your boots, I've got to say.

He's terrible.

I think they are the same brand. He changed back into the white Under Armours.

I just went and had a look. The red ones are a very different design.

Sorry, these were hasty:

ta.. Though cannot tell what they are from that image.

Most players however do not get paid to wear boots. Mainly they just get free boots.

Some may get tailor made boots, if their footsize is in between.. ie Harry Kewell.

The two pairs look like two different models.

The red pair has that "Adidas f50" tongue while the white pair doesn't seem to.

Image

That tongue on the red pair, with its thickness, would massively change the whole boot-to-ball feel.

They look like two completely different pairs to me.

Odd.

Well in any event he'll be better for the run.

The white pair are the Under Armours that he has been wearing at the saints this year in different colors.

The red ones I have not seen a clear enough shot to see what brand they are.

They may just be Under Armours in "saint" colors.

I'm hoping they're not Adidas.

Changing to a different brand at 3/4 time of an AFL grand final is a pretty big change.

Does Under Armour do that Adidas f50 tongue on their new range?

I'm getting visions of Peake going into Rebel Sport on Friday arvo saying, "I'm playing in a GF tomorrow and I want to look sh1t hot, what can you do for me?"

No. They have laces on top.
UA have only gone into boots relatively recently and have a limited range.

If they area different brand it would most likely not by going intoa shop. Would more likely have beena rep dropping around some free pairs.

If they are UA as he has worn them fora year the rep may have dropped of a newer pair in StKilda colors., rather than stock boots.
