I agree. It really wasn't that bad. That boy band singing it last year was real Barry Crocker material... To come to think of it, Barry singing the national anthem would be awesome for a laugh or two.Bernard Shakey wrote:National Anthem was the best rendition I've ever heard and the Australian Symphony Orchestra doing the club songs was also great.
INXS were great twenty years ago. Michael is dead, they should not desecrate his memory with a reality show joke. Shame AFL shame.
Worst national anthem in the history the Grand Final?

Up in the nosebleeds INXS weren't loud enough, but otherwise OK.saint66au wrote:Who WAS that singing the National Anthem?? Was it that McKenna duo from the US?..and if so what happened to them singing that footy song they wrote with Dennis Cometti. Im quite partial to that
Thought Paris Wells and the MSO were terrific. in M10 the sound was far better than it was for INXS and you could belt out the song (and we did!!) and still hear Paris, unlike every week at Etihad when if you sing it louder than a whisper you cant hear the recorded version
Less said about INXS the better....thought they just went through the motions and the staged "cheering crowd" in front of them was just embarassing
Agree about the staged crowd cheering - it was VERY AFL entertainment wise.....they always manage to pull that sort of thing off for GF's!

I was looking forward to belting it out then screaming a big 'Go Sainters' at the end but after the pathetic musical tricks they tried to play the whole mood seemed a bit subdued...
Some on here just love to bitch and complain....
This site is full of whiners and complainers NON STOP!!!
FFS I thought if was okay, but not worthy a post to bash and trash IMO..
Lets just concern ourself with winning next week
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!

I thought it sounded like some joint smoking hippie folk singers playing in a cafe full of spaced out flower children.
I don't think the crowd were quite clear when it was time to roar.
It was only marginally better than that big fat woman who sang out of tune about 10 years ago.

Why sing the anthem at all?
No one's representing their country.
I say scrap the rehashed crap bands, the reality tv 'talent' and the hot air sherrin and instead play the TAC Cup grand final, do the retirees motorcade, have the side's bash through their banners and just get the f*** on with it.

On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. If ever there was a song that needed changing it is that shocker, IMO.fingers wrote:Crap anthem.
Liked the 2 guys and guitars...but you DONT FREAKIN CHANGE THE SONG!
It is the least inspiring of any English language anthem in the entire world. Julie Anthony can sing a bit but whoever sings it is still polishing a turd.
The rendition should be as pompous and as filled with hubris as Demetriou, Maguire and Malthouse.
Anyway who here goes for the "entertainment"? I go to watch us win a flag, the rest is bushwah for the corporate stooges.
