Re: Ben Long Midfield
In my opinion… the obvious mistake this year was keeping Sinclair on a HBF when we had a plethora of players that could cover that position (Long, Hill, Clark, Highmore, NWM, Connolly, and Coops)… instead of sticking him in the middle where we needed him. Especially given that, when we did play Sin...

Re: Where the big dollars go.
Could have sworn there were articles about Crouch only getting less per year on his contract and so Adelaide only got a second rounder for him The HS was pushing the line that we were luring Crouch to Moorabbin on big money. I think there was some suggestion that we had to overpay to get players to...

Re: Where the big dollars go.
These figures are, according to agents, overblown. I was going to say this as well. I'm not a HS subscriber, so I can't check their math, but the league does release an overall summary of salaries. The cap this year is $13538993, which is an average of around $300K-$350K per player. Star players pr...

Re: Mathew Allison
Interestingly enough, on the AFL.com.au coverage in 2020, Riley Beveridge said something to the effect of 'well, that is a surprise' when we took Allison. Cal Twomey disagreed and said it was right around the mark for him. They don't generally disagree much on their coverage (which I prefer to the a...

Re: Welcome Oscar Adams
It looks like Adams played mostly as a ruck before having a position shift late in the season. Had 4 contested marks in the SANFL U18s GF, which is the only game they lost with him in the side. Pretty big jump from SANFL U18s even to just VFL level, so probably need to be patient with this one. http...

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
Owens & Windhager both survive the top 20. That means St kilda can take them both by matching other clubs bids for them. It may take more points than the club has but it still means the club can get them by going into deficit on the 2022 2nd round pick. Do you know, of the top of your head, how...

NWM on alf.com.au feed right now.
EDIT: You missed it! But it looks like they're slowly putting up the draft interviews at:
https://www.afl.com.au/video
Nothing earth shattering in the interview, however.

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
Yes, the top 20 picks will make up the first round due to the 2 father son bids. This link may help a bit with NGA selections, including a table on what each NGA bid costs, some have said the 197 points listed for picks 21 to 40 is the points discount we get for bids in that range. https://www.afl....

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
It all depends on when the bids come for those players, if it's top 20 we are done, if it's 21 to 40 it might be tight to get them, if it's 41 onwards we'll get them. Top-20 is going to mean first round by the time picks are added in for Daicos and Darcy, right? Do you know exactly what the situati...

Does anyone know if we have the requisite picks to match potential bids for the NGA kids without impacting next year's draft?

Re: Billings and Ryder re-sign
Currently we have picks 9 46 and 64 . Not a lot of depth I wouldn't be surprised if they traded pick 9 into next year for a potential run at Bing. I just don't think drafting early is a particular priority for the crowd running things right now. We're more about trading for good players and getting...

Re: Battle 'testing the waters'
I agree with Battle being allowed to settle in one place trouble is I reckon Highmore is the preferred chb .But still think we are short on tall backs.Cant see him in front of Howard,Wilke,Highmore so does he stick around or leave to get senior chance elsewhere PS i hope he stays It sounds like Bat...

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
Because of the list size reductions, the league allowed teams to put a couple of players on the rookie list without having to delist them. We put Clav and Joyce on the rookie list in that manner.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Mon 13 Sep 2021 8:00pmOscar was delisted at the end of last season, from memory, then rookie listed.

It's important to note (and I don't think you can emphasise this enough): Elshaug was the recruiter and Richo relied on Elshaug's expertise and in fact this is what Richo said in the Emma Quayle article .... ... " it's reassuring for Trout to say, "No, this guy (McCartin)is the better pla...

Re: Petracca
In the Emma Quayle article from 2015 about drafting McCartin, Richo made the comment that 'there's always midfielders'. We haven't drafted a full time starting mid since then and we just can't stop finding forwards. For all the misplaced panic about Boyd, we had Bruce kick 50 the following year, the...

Re: Ben King
Why would Bailey Smith leave that side I said Smith is struggling to get midfield time, which is worth investigating. Surely, that isn't even halfway controversial. Bont needs a new contract, Dunkley and Macrae will need new contracts next year and Treloar is signed until the end of 2025. Libba's t...

Re: Whats happened to Coffield
One of the real bright spots last year was getting guys like Clark, Coffield, Long and Paton into the defence ahead of guys like McKenzie, Savage and Webster. Thing have gone horribly wrong this year. Roughead broke Paton and the other three have all gone various degrees of backwards. The way we're ...

1. Get highest DP possible and do not **** it on some speculative athlete that may come good in 2029. Whomever we pick needs 2 things 1. Some run 2. Ball use skill/composure - no more gathers it 40 times gives it back under pressure 30 At any given time, St Kilda's recruiters are deciding whether t...

Re: Dunstan or Billings?
I don't mind Dunstan as a backup, but I don't see the need for him when we've got Crouch and Steele in there. It would be nice to have somebody who's a bit more skilled to complement those two. I don't think there's a shortage of options either. My hope for Billings, at this stage, is that somebody ...
