Re: The draw
On ways of measuring draw difficulty, if we add the total ladder points of opponents (eg add 72 for each time Geelong is played, add 8 each time Roos are played) we get St Kilda with the 5th most difficult draw (1038). Only the Swans from the top 8 had a more difficult run (1044) and Geelong and Ric...

Game plan worked out?
I read a comment this eeek that claimed our game plan had been worked out since the bye. Took me back to a comment by Nathan Buckley at Round 6 where he said that we were “mining a vein”, implying that whatever we were doing was working for now but would come to an end. If it’s true that we’ve been ...

Re: Head high tackles
Just because you’re going low to win the ball doesn’t give the opposition free reign to whack you high. Tackling technique was poor and didn’t adapt throughout the game. If you take possession then dive into the on coming tackler it’s not supposed to be a free. Not my rule the AFLs. Nothing to do w...

Re: Draw flatters us
Agree that we need a few more weeks for the ladder to settle out. But the truth is that by revealed form of opponents (add up their ladder points), we have had the second toughest draw of any team in the 8. Geelong have had a marginally harder draw. One thing to watch for though, all of those teams ...

Re: Improved?
After 6 rounds last year we were sitting at 388 pts for, 546 against.
In 2019 we're 464/441
That's a +12.7 pts offensive improvement and a -17.5 pts defensive improvement - overall +30.2 points per game to the good.
Looks like improvement to me!

Re: Kelly is coming
It's odd by definition because it's unusual that a star player involved in the finals isn't signed by the beginning of September if he's going to stay. My memory isn't perfect but the last one I can remember is Trav in 2012 - and we all remember how destabilising that was. You might be right that Ke...

Re: Kelly is coming
Agree that it's odd they haven't announced it if he's said he'll stay. Just possible he's told Giants that he wants a flag. And that he"ll stay unless they win it this year - in which case he'll take the money and go.

AFL job vacancies; Hold onto Ameet Bains
Have just listened to the AFL presser where Gill McLachlan announced that he had accepted the resignations of Head of Football Operations and General Manager Commercial. Gill explained that he did not see obvious successors within the organisation and that they would be looking to clubland for new a...

Re: With the exception of GWS...
As has been said, our run home consists of playing repeat games against teams about us on the ladder. If we deserve to be there, we'll win our fair share in the coming weeks. If we can't win them, we don't deserve to make finals. Having said that, we've been a bit stiff with the draw. As it's turned...

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
Blues within striking distance half way through last quarter. Win for them would be handy.
Want the Kangas to get another one under their belts. Well within the realms of possibility.
And, of course, looking to the Magpies to knock off the Hawks.

Re: "Basher" Houli straight to tribunal
Glad to see that the AFL have appealed the sanction. While I'm impressed with Houli's work outside the footy arena, my view is that it's irrelevant to his suspension. The tribunal already have a 'character test' that we take into account when they deliberate on penalties; it's called a clean record ...

You're right, he made the final of the GF sprint last year. Once he winds up he can go. Perhaps I just can't get past that chunky build.BigMart wrote:He has a terrible body shape, but is deceptively quick
In fact one of the fastest over medium distance (50-100) at the club

Re: VFL RD 10- Sandringham Vs Coburg
a couple of o servations from whT was a scrappy crowded affair: Not sure if anyone takes contested ball stats in these games, but Freeman impressed me with his inside game. Very few uncontested receives in his numbers. Still did t feel he hurt the opposition much with his touches but continues to im...

Re: Bailey Rice
I'm not sure where Rice fits in. He's a pure footballer. Has some of the best hands in the club; great below knees and above his head. He got such solid disposal skills that he rarely turns the ball over. And he appears to have a great footy brain; reads the ball well, runs to the right places. I se...

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
Round 14 wish list. Sometimes there's a conflict between what's best for our finals chances and what's best for our Hawk pick. This round looks great. Most games have a bearing on one or the other and not many conflicted outcomes. ADELAIDE vs Hawthorn Swans vs ESSENDON (not sure about this one but B...

Carlton 4 points up against Giants at 3/4 time. Perhaps unlikely but if they can hang onto that lead for another 30 mins then Hawks drop to 17!

Re: Hawks 1st round pick watch
No pleasure from last night's loss but I'm at the G watching the repechage.
Some good might come from this weekend yet. Suns have looked the better team so far. Does feel odd to be barracking for an interstate team but I'd take a win today.

Re: VFL Rd 7 Sandringham Vs Pies -( your footy fix for bye r
My notes on today: Long: a few moments of magic made me hopeful. Didn't get a great deal of it but was one of the few to crack things open with vision or skill. The pass inside for Bruce's fourth goal was, dare I say it, reminiscent of Winmar hitting up Plugger. Bruce: touch returning. Didn't get to...

Re: VFL Rd 7 Sandringham Vs Pies -( your footy fix for bye r
Perhaps. He ran hard both ways and laid his fair share of tackles. But his possessions weren't often damaging; disposal efficiency would have been low and I can only think of one one run and carry burst. A bit to work on but some promising signs.
