Re: Mediocre Players with Cult Status
Daniel the Wolfman Wulf. Ralphsmith. Troy Schwartz. From my ever deteriorating memory I thought the statrt of Troy's last season at the Saints was his best. He started like a rocket to the point that I thought he would have been in the first 8 to 12 picked each week then he was injured with a reaso...

Re: If we play 2 games per year in NZ from 2015.....
I heard Richo on the tele during the week talking about the NZ game. I forget which program I was watching but he said from a financial perspective and even with the relatively low attendance numbers at this seasons Wellington game, Saints got more money out of this one game than they will get from ...

I find Lance Oswald an interesting story. He was an absolute star... Dual B&F Big V Centreman Best player in the team until the Tasmanians arrived in 62/3 At 26 he walked away because Stewart became the Centreman?! Was he unhappy that he was no longer the best player.... Was he (or Stewart) una...

Re: Brent Guerra on "Open Mike"
I don't think there is much point in comparing the records of GT or Ross L. These two in my view were very different coaches and therefore brought different attributes to coaching us. I reckon coaches are either great motivators or great tacticians and its very rare that a coach can be great in both...

Re: Open training at the Junction Oval!
A couple of comments about Fitzroy's and the Demons occupancy of the Junction oval. In financial terms Fitzroy got screwed over by St K Cricket Club to make their long term occupancy of the ground just impossible. The same thing happened earlier to StK Football Club which resulted in the Saints leav...

Re: Who can play AFL standard footy?
My very basic appraisal system with our more recent players is to try and detect regular improvement over two seasons once they break into the senior side. Obviously there will be fluctuations in performance but if they get to the end of the second year (approaching 50 games) and they are still with...

Re: Junction Oval on the brink of collapse
What's actually happened with St.K CC? Are they being forced to vacate because of financial unsustainability? Is Cricket Victoria's plan for the Junction on the scrapheap?[/quote] The Junction Oval was supposed to be Vic Cricket's No2 venue behind the MCG and I recollect a big slab of its upkeep (ie...

Re: Matt Finnis for CEO?
Let's face it, no high profile, vastly experienced operator would want the job, nor can we afford to pay top dollar. We are forced to take a punt here. The best we can do is take on someone like Finnis, who is promising, yet somewhat untried. We have to hope that we are getting a rising star, who w...

Re: Congratulations Lenny and Brian
Brian's real strength was his marking ability and he had the strength to hold his position against the opposition's bigger players going forward. Was surprised to see he played CHF in Subiaco's premiership side as I didn't think his kicking was all that flash.

Re: New CEO
The other one I am still wondering about is this guy Robson. Fell on his sword at E'don for obviously something he felt he should have known about but didn't and acknowledged it with his resignation. Previously worked at H'thorn. The interesting thing about his time at H'thorn is that they didn't sa...

Re: New CEO
I am still wondering about Andrew Plympton. A Saints man, high profile businessman in several fields, as head of Yachting Australia has set up a financial model that many National sporting organisations in Aust want to get their hands on (eg yachting success at the last Olympics), and has now vacate...

Re: What Peter Summers DIDN'T say !!
it comes down to one simple thing ... bums on seats .... why do Collingwood get the plumb time slots ? because they draw crowds why do we get the dud time slots cause we struggle to get crowds ... the AFL want their prime time games to look like the stadiums are full not qtr full .... as for the co...

Re: What Peter Summers DIDN'T say !!
If you think we are ever going to play games at Moorabbin or The Junction Oval, you really are are on the wrong drugs. It will never happen. We need to get back to Moorabbin as a home base to regain the supporter base. The stadium deal is going to destroy two or three Melbourne clubs if the AFL does...

Re: What Peter Summers DIDN'T say !!
As I said on another thread I think this is about our second last chance to do something to establish a decent base to do something about our membership nand give a boost to our sponsorship arrangements (such as they are). We have to establish a decent home base that is recognised and closer to the ...

[quote="onlooker2" You do realise when the Hawks went to waverley they had finished 2nd and 3rd last in the previous 2 years and when we went to Seaford we had just made the GF. Where we train has no bearing on major sponsors whatsoever otherwise the hawks coming off bad seasons and going...

Re: Man City/Heart at Moorabbin?
Nothing wrong with Seaford, it serves it's purpose, it's a good deal for a club that operates on a shoestring budget , and, the Coffee shop clique have almost gone, so there's no issue. Seaford does nothing to enhance the Club's commercial position which is the basis of our future. As a training ve...

Re: swan new CEO ?
I read on another thread about Andrew Plympton being interviewed on commercial radio tonight. Now there's a dark horse for the CEO's position. Knows the AFL's workings, a Saints man, has a big business background and has been doing some fill type jobs since finishing as CEO of Yachting Australia. Wo...

Re: The coach on channel 10 news tonight
Re the Defensive Coach statement. Very basically said that to move the ball forward requires backhalf pressure and last season we had very little of it and they had been working very hard to improve this situation this year.
