Re: Jack Carroll
People saying he is an improvement on Hotton are missing the point entirely. Hotton was not in our best 22 and subsequently was delisted. For this to be worthwhile he has to be better than someone who is in our best 22 and I simply cannot see who he would be better than. We are full of average foot...

Re: Robbo: No-man’s land Saints can’t afford to fluff picks 7 and 8 again
It's fair to say that recruitment staff at St Kilda made some monumentaly poor decisions in drafts in the past (taking David Armitage at 9 ahead of Jack Riewoldt 13 in 2006) was my all-time howler. But Robbo failed to acknowledge that in recent years they picked some really good ones, most recently...

When I'm drinking at the pub with mates I swear and use racist, sexist and homophobic terminology. When I'm at work, or with kids or family friends I choose not to do this. It's not that hard to be sensible even if it doesn't come naturally. My oldest son is 19. I expect all my kids to be similarly ...

Whether you agree with it or not, it’s just not that hard in this day and age to know where the line is and not cross it. Lance might be a moron.

And if people think Max should be 'protected' and stay out of the ruck because it's too physical....then maybe Max should change careers and do basketball or swimming as his preferred sport. We're not talking about asking him to get in a boxing ring, or to go from playing Aussie rules to playing Ru...

No game plan can withstand sub-40% kicking efficiency.

Whether the game plan is right or wrong doesn’t explain dropped marks, fumbles, missed tackles, mis-kicks, poor accuracy. Too many players not up to it.

Didn’t they bring in David Wheadon as goalkicking coach last year or is that done?

Re: So are we better than last year ?
One of the main reasons St Kilda is a better team this year than last is that Ross Lyon is an ardent disciple of the late Sir Alex Ferguson, arguably the most successful manager in the English Premier League who famously proclaimed "Attack wins games, defence wins titles". Tight, strangli...

Bassett on SEN this week flagged big list changes. Will obviously be subject to contract commitments but change is coming.

Re: Nothing wrong with where we're at.
Expectations were unrealistically raised by the first 4 weeks. We all knew we were a 6-12 team before the year started, now we’re playing like one. I’m okay with that as long as I see consistent effort and a plan. This year I’m seeing that, last year I wasn’t. We’ve been in every game except Adelaid...

Re: Ross Lyon Press Conference After Hawks
My thinking is it took him a year (07) to bed in a new game plan last time, and that was with a much better list than he has now. I assume it will take about as long this time as, while he's learnt from 07, he is starting with a worse list.

Re: Who the hell asked the captain
So last year when Steele doesn't play to his usual standard post-shoulder injury that's due to the injury, but this year when he doesn't play to his usual standard post-collarbone injury that's because Ross told him to lose a few kilos. Righto.

Re: Age article - ‘A point of difference in the south’: How Saints hope to keep rivals at bay
Halle-bloody-lujah! I can't believe it's taken this long for the club to put one of my strategy suggestions into practice. Next stop, have spots on the list that are reserved for players who only get 2 years maximum to prove they are capable of playing in a GF side, high turnover on high speculativ...

Re: TRAINING REPORTS - JAN to MAR
Geelong? Freo in WA? How was your commentary going into r12 last season I remember everyone being pretty c**k a hoop! I'm sure everyone was excited to be 8-3, but it was noted by many that we hadn't put together any 4 quarter efforts apart from the Hawthorn game. Most of our wins came from 1-2 quar...

Re: Lyon and his vision of our 2023 game style.
Do you know that for a fact His groin seemed ok in the first half of the GF I am a huge Ross fan - but he fkd up with Ball He definitely struggled to see out games, and conditions were very heavy, so good first half followed by sore second half makes sense. What I do know for a fact is that I’m ver...

Re: Lyon and his vision of our 2023 game style.
Is that Luke Ball - who’s tackle numbers were elite? Yep, but also the Luke Ball described by Ross as needing to improve his spread. I would think that Collingwood showed the boss that he didn't know his arse from his elbow when it came to Luke Ball. His groin was better when he was at Collingwood ...

I hope/expect him to extract the very best, but I'm sure he'll extract more than his predecessor. And his predecessor's predecessor. And the one before that too. And ideally even the one before that. The Fireman wrote: ↑Tue 20 Dec 2022 1:24pm I’m sure Lyon will be able to extract the very best out of our talented and skilful list
