Re: The pelican really crapped in our nest.
Fair enough. I got 2/3. I should take my own advice and be more on the ball with the facts. So, McEvoy for Dunstan, Acres and Savage. Now, this is just an opinion so don’t lose your $&@&. Dunstan honest trier, Savage handy and Acres still a little undecided. Winner??? Just an opinion but bit...

Re: The pelican really crapped in our nest.
Very simply, recruiting has been really poor for a decade. Or has it really? If you're talking 2008 - 2018. We all assume that, but it really comes down to two years, 2009 & 2010. Low draft picks (and a compromised draft in 2010) and lack of salary cap space had something to do with that. The f...

Re: The pelican really crapped in our nest.
The whole Ross Lyon period and post Lyon has been a very difficult one for the club. The way I view it is The Saints had a premiership list/side built by Thomas, Rendell and Bevo. Unfortunately the board at the time believed Thomas, while he helped build a great list and playing culture, was not a g...

St Kilda's drafts 2007-10 2007 Ben McEvoy (9), Jack Steven (42), Fraser Gehrig (57), Eljay Connors (70) 2008 Tom Lynch (13), Rhys Stanley (47), Nick Heyne (48), Alistair Smith (62), Paul Cahill (74), Colm Begley (83) 2009 Nick Winmar (32), Jesse Smith (60), Adam Pattison (64), Will Johnson (77) 201...

Re: When Ross Was Boss - The Recruiter
The other obvious issue, is that we played this card during compromised drafts. Excellent point. When you fire, you fire!! I remember reading in the press how St Kilda will have so many draft picks inside 20 and how many picks here and there. And I remember thinking nowhere did it mention this will ...

Re: When Ross Was Boss - The Recruiter
The narrative becomes terrible drafting, terrible trading and terrible development. I ask this question would the narrative be different if the bounce of the ball went in another direction and St Kilda had won that elusive flag, would we still say terrible trading and terrible drafting? No. It woul...

Re: When Ross Was Boss - The Recruiter
Now I have got that off my chest can I try this as the narrative? At the end of 2006 StKilda could see the chance for winning that next flag slipping away. They appointed a coach with an astute mind in regards game plan. Not a visionary but a for now coach. The team after a slow start and adjusting...

Re: When Ross Was Boss - The Recruiter
The whole point of the discussion??? I’ll admit I not sure what the whole point is?? I just wanted clarification on only two players came though so I assumed, maybe incorrectly, you were blaming recruiting. My view and it’s only an opinion is St Kilda’s recruiting of young player through 2007 to 201...

Re: When Ross Was Boss - The Recruiter
Pillar 5 can a guy hit a target etc. If I am interrupting the Pillars correctly I think you’ll find that comes under Pillar 1. Can he play? Then why can't our guys "play" (hit a target). Little unsure of the implication here so oppologises if I miss the target. (Little joke there). If a p...

Re: When Ross Was Boss - The Recruiter
Regards only Steven and Armitage only came through it that time. Can I ask for clarification? I actually assess that period a little differently. I believe these players came through that time McEvoy(Dual premiership ruckman), Steven (4 time B&F) Hutchings (Premiership player), Cripps (Premiersh...

Re: When Ross Was Boss - The Recruiter
John Peake sounds like the most astute judge of a footballer ever. What's he doing now? Surely making millions consulting for AFL clubs telling them who to draft? No doubt there's truth to what he says, but it also looks like every stuff up we made he was against, and any half decent footballer draf...

Re: Scrimshaw
Possibly.
As stated super talented but competitiveness is my concern.
History has lead me to believe if they aren’t super competitive they never reach their potential.
Remember Cale Morton, Chris Yarren,Beau Dowler etc.

Re: Scrimshaw
Very talented player. On talent he would rate highly. Worry. Didn’t really fire up at The Gold Coast It could be argued GC’s poor culture and development. Maybe? Or he may lack a real hard competitive edge. Similar maybe to Jack Watts. Has great talent but doesn’t produce it on a regular basis. Proc...

Re: Kieran Collins
Didn’t develop? Good question. More he was a big strong kid who didn’t have a lot of improvement in him. Similar player to Nathan Brown except I don’t think he could play deep back. . With Goddard going you could possibly look at him as a delisted free agent. He would only be suitable for certain ty...

Re: Anybody worried our club might fold?
Yes. I am not a businessman’s long lunch hour but if you are 12millon in debt it has to be a concern. You would think the Saints are geographically well placed. Unfortunately, either though poor management or the market is just not there we have struggled to be self sufficient. I would think the AFL...

Re: Kieran Collins
Kieren Collins was a very good lock down defender in the TAC and VFL.
He lacks some speed and agility for AFL and he he does not read it well enough to overcome those deficiencies.
At best he’d only be a role player in the AFL.

Re: McEvoy and Stanley.
Lynch is another one who looked a complete dud at the Saints. In fact I could barely find one redeeming feature of him when he was at the Saints. He looked slow, thought slow and was a shallow kick. I've read at other times people saying he had potential. I saw none of that and in actual fact though...

Re: McEvoy and Stanley.
Re McEvoy. Whether you agree with the trade or not, I think, gets down to whether you rate McEvoy. I rate him so, I think the trade was a mistake. If you don’t rate him then of course you’ll agree with the trade. As for Lynch, he did not want to go. He Saints hawked him around. They did not rate him...

Re: McEvoy and Stanley.
I think you’ll find, if you do some research, that the McEvoy can’t run statement is factually incorrect. He broke 10 minutes for the 3 km time trail whilst at the Saints. Ben is an endurance beast. He is slow, yes but run, no. I think everyone at the club forgot ruckman are slow maturers and also h...
