Re: 204cm WAFL Ruckman
Blakiston sounds good. Anyway, if we're casting our net wide, we should also seriously consider 18 year old WA draft prospect Kayle Gerreyn, at least as a later pick... who can play ruck and is also versatile enough to play key position. He's like a bigger, taller version of Owens (he runs, uses his...

Re: Brodie Kemp
"The word on Kemp coming into the season was that he was destined for more midfield minutes after finding a home as a high-marking intercept defender in 2018, but he would end up having an impact just about everywhere. He adapted his kick-dominant game to become a handball-happy midfield extrac...

Re: Joe D retires… Max King for…
The important thing is not the number of goals Max King will possibly end up kicking at his peak, but our team kicking more goals. I mean King may have a year where he'll kick his 70-80 goals, but this might come at the cost of our forward line being less efficient and the team kicking 50 less goals...

Re: Hits Outs and Ruckmen
No better indicator of how ineffective the hitouts are is Xerri and Marshall taking it upon themselves, whenever the possibilty presents itself, to clear the ball themselves. I think this speaks volumes. Even a quick, blind kick is better/much more effective ... what does this tell us? Is it more e...

Re: Hits Outs and Ruckmen
Thanks for a great post, St Dave,. Given the degree of difficulty then, and numerous factors outside of the ruckman's control ... including the fact that they're trying to move across to the fall of the ball, anticipating where it will land, then (if and when they happen to get there), trying to out...

Re: Hits Outs and Ruckmen
What about the never talked about and statistically non-existent "hitouts to disadvantage"? We can see with our own eyes that they do (exist). For every hitout to advantage, I'm betting there'd be as many "hitouts to disadvantage." And, as mentioned by someone in this thread. I b...

Re: Defence wins finals not midfields
As The Dud understands nothing about football other than stats in the number I forgive his ignorance. Sydney’s midfield were behind the 8 ball as their defence couldn’t win the ball back. Brisbane on the other hand won the ball in the back half and rebounded through the middle. The beneficiary’s be...

Re: Defence wins finals not midfields
Let's cut to the chase - it's Lyon's game plan and defensive mindset that wins finals and grand finals. And Max King will win us the GF, Our midfielders can sit it out.

Re: Defence wins finals not midfields
Of course it's important to have quality defenders. But you need an attacking mind-set to win games and finals. A free scoring, hard-running team that keeps asking questions will beat a team that's defensively-minded, all things being equal. Ideally, I think you need a couple of tough inside midfiel...

Re: Battle
I'm just speculating on all the speculation going around. And I don't know what/who the original source is. I'm just saying it's a pity that he decided to leave ... and it'd be a real shame if it turns out that he left for substantially less (as it would reflect on the compensation we'd be receiving).

Re: Battle
I think Battle plays a game that's somewhat similar to Sicily's (I agree Sicily is a level above). Whereas Battle complemented Wilkie in a way (noting that Wilkie plays closer, tighter). We had the complete defence in that sense across half back ... they worked well together. It's a pity ... actuall...

Re: Battle
He is a B Grade player To be an A grader you need to be in the top 3-5 players at your club (depending on strength of team) We are a weaker team He sits behind Rowan Sinclair Steele Wilkie Nasiah IMO Then there’s the injured Crouch and King to consider Id rate Battle with Hill, Wood and Higgins He'...

Re: Jack McCrae
He will probably improve us short term?
Maybe he's part of a Lyon masterplan for a tilt at the flag next year?
Lyon 3.0, we're talking about, here.

Re: Best and Fairest Predictions
Young Owens finished 5th in 2023, the year we made finals.
He should be aiming for a podium finish next year... or for another 5th, at least.

He was still rated elite as a defender/CHB in a number of measures ... I didn't make that part up.

Re: Battle
Battle is not anywhere near the Level of Wilkie as a key back Blind Freddy would know that Just look at the B&F finishes Blind Freddy also needs to take into account ... Battle arrived as (and was initially played as) a forward. I think Richo moved Battle to the back line in the last half-a-doz...

Re: Ivan Soldo nominates St Kilda
No to recycled players/list cloggers.
Sounds like Lyon has entered into his final phase of loading us up with ballast, then scuttling and abandoning the ship, ... setting the next coach up for failure.
Sound familiar?

Re: 8 more years of Max King
How much would Battle be worth if he was a 40-50 goal forward? I'm sure he could have managed that as a forward ... I mean Membrey at 188cms managed to do that, didn't he? I dont think Battle would have been worth $900k as a forward. The point is, Battle's best position is CHB ... that's why he comm...
