Re: Get Hartung
This will probably be an unpopular post/opinion, but part of the reason players are desisted isn't just playing ability/performance (which I fully recognise is the primary output/measure of an AFL players, that is their purpose of employment). I was at an AFL seminar in September where Hawthorn high...

Re: How's that great deal looking now?
Stars dont go to small market teams, it's just the reality.
The only way we can get stars is to draft and develop them.
Our next flag will be built through the draft, not big ticket free agent signings or trades (I don't believe it's an option for us).

Re: Freezer
I think realistically this year if he can play out the year in the VFL, show some real continuity in his health and football that'd be a big tick. Best case scenario he stays healthy, shows extremely good form in the VFL for Sandy and puts the coaches in a position where they simply have to pick him...

Re: Sam Gilbert say F%$k U to all the doubters!
I never hate on the guy, but I'll put my hand up and say I'm not a fan. Credit where credit's due, really solid game by Gilbo.
I think we've got him in a better role this year. As long as he's as far away as the opposition goals as possible Im happy.
What a game indeed.

Tuned it at the half, Longer was holding his own, then wins one contest, then another. Then as the game went on he was just beating Mummy 3 of every 4 contests. I didn't know he had that in him, particularly against Mummy.widereceiver wrote:I don't think Reg Hickey will be rushed back. Longer's best game this year.

Re: Drafting for need
I think we're at the stage in the rebuild where we have a solid core of talent. I reckon they doubted any of the guys they picked would be a walk up start to our best 22. Plus with any mid we pick this year it'd be tough for them to crack into the side, adding in effectively Steele, Koby and you cou...

This will be like the dogs game. Our forward line flooded all day, we can't score. Then the other team will score on the rebound if an open forward line. We poses and go backwards and just facilitate the flood. All a learning process but no less frustrating.

Re: Recruit the best players, or recruit specific players??
I'm going to contradict myself here, but pick the best talent available, though smalls > talls. E.g. If the best 2 available players are a midfielder and a key back, pick the mid every day of the week. We are playing in a new era, the introduction of free agency is the key tool in filling needs (e.g...

He's got a long way to go, but I agree things look really promising. Seems to be a genuine footballer, as apposed to some relying on their athletic traits. If Eli and Billings can play as small forwards this year and get 14+ games into their development, then great! It's nice to think we may have go...

I read in this thread yesterday, someone saying along the lines of a him being in the realm of too good for VFL level, and not quite at AFL standard. Fair call. (sorry who ever this was, too lazy to go back and quote). I don't mind him, structurally he gets to the right spots and provides a contest....

No doubt Gilbert has the potential to be one of our better players.
Though really this year it doesn't matter, this just opens up an opportunity for someone else.

SS was in its prime in like 05 or so, then the threads became less about the club/footy talk, and just people arguing pointlessly.

Re: Your Expectations of the Saints over the coming seasons
I don't really care how many games we win or loose.
I can handle and even expect a few blow outs, thats the nature of playing young blokes.
I just want to pump 18+ games into the young guys who are the future, and establish a game plan that makes us competitive.

The numbers don't really matter. The fact is, we're going to see a younger group of 22 blokes run out for our club each week, as we build towards the future.

Haven't seen him play, but at 194cm and 97kg, he fills a profile and a position we desperately need. If he can play a role and develop and only 24 years old, I'm happy with that.

Shame the AFL players association weren't as developed as they are now when he was a kid. Could've used the financial David and resources. They saying, I can't help but feel no one could've helped Fev.

3rd string forward in his last season of college ball, for what ever reason not really part of the rotation regularly.
History of foot skills definitely doesn't hurt.
Hope he can push for some senior sandy games next year!

Yeh some terrible field kicking, just gave the tiger a look at the contest too many tmes. Siposs (who's is still young and inexperienced) was quite poor with his kicking tonight. Hate to single one bloke out, but he is one of the better kicks we have!

Re: Umpires F%$king useless
I don't know whether it's supporter bias, or if the umpires were rather poor tonight. I just felt Richmond got a lot of free kicks infront of goal, some fair, but the majority not so much. That's footy....
