Hi Gurus,

I was wondering if anyone knowledgeable can fill me in on the draft rules pertaining to academy players?

Particularly interested in Biggy Nyuon. How do we sit given our low picks? Do we still have a chance?

If he is bid on before pick 40 (roughly) and we want him we will have to use some of our points from next year. So Mr.Gags and Satan have not only destroyed our draft hand for this year they have also stuffed up next years hand as well. For what? Hill with a knee, old man Ryder, Dougal who seems to have some talent and 2 other speculative players. What a joke.

In Gags and Satan I don't trust.

Alarmist rubbish. If he goes where expected it will have no or little effect.

If he goes very early it can have an affect, but will not stuff us up.

For picks after the first round the discount is 197 points rather than 20% (ie is more than 20%).

So for say pick 30, points is 629 points.
Take off 197 = 432points.

Take off points from 51 = 432 - 259 = 173 points as a deficit.

Now the club can try and trade one, or even both, of 2020 fourths for a pick in 2019 worth the required points or part of them.

Or the 173 just comes off our 2010 first.

So in terms of our first rounder:

Pick 1 = 3000. Our Points become 2827 points.
Pick 2 is 2517. So a our picks stays at Pick 1. Ditto for Pick 3.

Pick 10 = 1395. So our points become 1132.
Our pick would then slide to pick 15

If Biggy went at 20 (Purely as an academic exercise as most watchers have him asa late pick to rookie. Knightmare seems to be the odd one out).

912-197 point = 715 points = Pick 27

We have 259. So shortfall = 456 points.

If no matching
Pick 1 = 3000. Our Points become 2564 points.
Pick 2 is 2517. So a our picks stays at Pick 1.

If Pick 2 our points become 2061. Which is just above pick 4, so we slide 1 pick to Pick 3.

If Pick 6, our points become 1259, and our pick becomes pick 13.
If Pick 10, our points become 939, and our pick becomes pick 20.

Friday, 22 November 2pm NAB AFL Trade Period Closes (for exchange of selections only) so expect us to trade in a pick in this year's draft sacrificing a draft from next year's draft. I expect next year that we shall be open to trading out players for picks, if required.
