Re: Players coming back
The loss of Webster is underrated. If we had of won just 2 more games I reckon we would be well in the finals discussion.

Re: Players coming back
I remember a poster saying that someone in Tassie rated Webster the best footballer to come out of the Apple isle
He's still a long way short of that, but not bad all the same.

Re: Players coming back
Good news!
I'd give Stuv another week at the Zebs. Webster to come back through the VFL as well.
Battle and Hannebery straight back in. Rice and White deserve a crack, but it'd be hard to break into the side this week.
Even Long may not come straight back in.

Re: Players coming back
Webster is very disappointing.
Hard as nails, which I greatly admire - but his kicking is just awful and his decision making is worse.
He's basically a stopper. Like Geary, you don't want the ball in his hands.
So is there room for both him and Geary?

Re: Players coming back
I think one of Gears, Jimmy or Sav might need to play different roles as Coff needs to retain his spot at HBF. It will do wonders for Nick's confidence if we just show faith in him and leave him in that position this year.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Thu 25 Jul 2019 10:13am Webster is very disappointing.

Re: Players coming back
I'd almost argue that Savage will be the one to go, given Webster is such a good defender.Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 25 Jul 2019 12:09pmI think one of Gears, Jimmy or Sav might need to play different roles as Coff needs to retain his spot at HBF. The gains we'd get defensively from Webster, outweigh the offensive advantage to Savage.
Savage's kicking is overrated. Better than Webster's, but a bit too 'safe' to be really damaging.
Speaking of 'safe' kicking, that's where Coffield has enormous upside. Once he gets to confidence to take risks, he'll be a legit good player.

I think it's Sav, he's the least physical of those threeScollop wrote: ↑Thu 25 Jul 2019 12:09pmI think one of Gears, Jimmy or Sav might need to play different roles as Coff needs to retain his spot at HBF. The times they don't completely miss - they're like bullets at the ankles of our guys! Not only misses them, he misses them in dangerous spots too!
Terrible decision making, and shocking kicking.

Re: Players coming back
Webster is a tricky one. At times he has very good runs of form but he's never put together a great season. If I had to choose between playing Webster or Coffield, I'd pick Coffield for the sake of development. I'd probably go with Webster over Paton though.

Re: Players coming back
Webster was leading the best & fairest half way through last year. In a season where so few stood up, he was brilliant. Injury ruined the second half of his season. He is one of the better footballers on our list.

Re: Players coming back
To be honest, I don't particularly care if I see Hanners in the side again this season. It's been a forgettable season for him, I'm not sure I could cope if he broke down again.
His pre season can start now. These matches are an opportunity for others to gain experience and show their future value.
Battle needs games. Webster doesn't, he can join Hanners on a extended pre season.
Steven needs to play for himself more than anyone else.
White needs an opportunity, hopefully 5 of them.
Give Rice another opportunity.
Give Clavarino a taste, especially while Brown is in the side.

Re: Players coming back
We have to attempt to win every game we play. There is way more to lose if we start gifting games because we want to rest players and lose games because of it. Winning culture is now as important as list preparation for 2020.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Thu 25 Jul 2019 6:19pm To be honest, I don't particularly care if I see Hanners in the side again this season. We win this week and a few other results go our way we are back in the finals discussion. Very long shot for sure but the winning culture and the positivity will create momentum going into off season not to mention strengthen our sales pitch to recruiting targets, not too mentioning sponsorship and membership and the list goes on...
We have to throw everything at winning all of our remaining games.
BR or RL will be expected to have us playing finals next year with this list so no time to waste.

Re: Players coming back
I'm not suggesting we tank, I believe we can win this week and win a couple more on the way in.
We won last week without any of those. The belief is there and talent is already on the park.
White's form is such that a promotion would be justified.
To slip Clavarino in, whilst he has the opportunity to learn in the heat of an AFL game off Brown & Carlisle is immeasurable in terms of development. His form has been solid. The better teams offer these opportunities.
BR, RL, RH or XYZ will want players to have games in them. They will want to know who can do what and how they handle the heat of AFL.
My opinion anyway, an opinion that doesn't believe in tanking.
