Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun

North Melbourne is fighting to keep Todd Goldstein under new footy boss Brady Rawlings.
St Kilda is into Goldstein to join gun youngster Rowan Marshall in the ruck, as well as circling Bomber Sam Draper.
But the Roos are upping their offer to Goldstein to include a second-year on the contract, including a potential trigger for a third season.
Goldstein, who has just turned 31, is having one of his best seasons in years, playing every game so far in 2019.

He has averaged 16 disposals, 34 hit-outs and three marks a game.
Tom Campbell is back-up ruck for Kangaroos but the club is short-on depth in the big man department, meaning it is important for them to keep Goldstein.
He is the second-most experienced player on North Melbourne’s list, with 227 games, behind Scott Thompson, with 235.

West Coast want to keep Rawlings as list manager until after the trade period finishes in October.
The Roos are trying to sway the Eagles into releasing Rawlings early so he can get on with setting up for next season.

We know about Carlton and Adelaide’s pick swap, but this exchange between Brisbane and Gold Coast was a beauty for the Lions.
In last year’s trade period, the Lions raised a few eyebrows handing over their top pick (No. 6) to Gold Coast, who nabbed gun big man Ben King.
But the Suns’ slide down to the bottom of the ladder this season has enhanced what the Lions received in that little-known deal in return.
Brisbane ended up with pick No. 19 in last year’s draft (which sealed the Lachie Neale deal), Gold Coast’s second-round pick in this year’s draft (currently No. 19) as well as a third-round pick from Fremantle (currently No. 44).
In total, Brisbane gained an extra 507 draft value index points on the deal, which is equivalent to pick No. 36, as a bonus.

Gary Ablett is warming to the idea of playing on next season, but he will have to convince his wife, Jordan, first.
The Cats would clearly love to have him go around again, but the champion ballwinner said he would need a tick a tick of approval from the boss.
“It’s something that I’m talking to my wife about,” Ablett said on the Cats’ podcast.
“I’ve been in the game 18 years now so I need to get it passed her.”
A flag may also see Ablett bow out.

Geelong is making good progress in talks on a new deal for back pocket Jed Bews.
As an unrestricted free agent, Bews can walk to the club of his choice at season’s end.
But the Cats are expecting to the father-son to be there next year after recent discussions.

The Bombers are working on a new deals for emerging pair Darcy Parish and Aaron Francis.
The pair are both out of contract at season’s end and have had up and down seasons in their fourth years.
After a slow start, Parish, pick No. 5 in 2015, has improved since the middle part of the season, with back-to-back 31-possesison games in Rounds 10 and 11.
Francis, pick No. 6, finished last season in red-hot form but has been unable to replicate that this year, amid stints in the forward line and defence.
Talks are expected to progress over the next month or two as Essendon attempts to move into the eight.

Re: Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun
Why?
Goldie is a No1 ruck or is not in your 22.
If we were in the window for a tilt I could see the sense. But we are not. Goldie will only have a year or two and would instead probably stymie Marshall's development.
Marshall could be a gun No1. Play him there and he will get better.
Get
a back up ruck to play if he gets injured.

Re: Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun
I'd be wrapped if we got Goldstein and Draper and lost one of Longer/Pierce.
Personally, would rather keep Pierce.
That said if we picked up a developing key position ruck in the draft then I'd flick Pierce too
Ruck stocks improve by 200% overnight

We have a ruck coach.
Marshall will develop a lot faster, as we have seen, if he plays as first ruck.
He will learn a lot more than if sits on the pine.

Re: Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun
PS: If we did not have Marshall I could see the sense in getting Goldie for a couple of years to help Bytel, Clark etc find their feet.
With the promise Marshall has shown I just do not see the sense in it and I doubt that Goldie will want to mainly play our his last year or two at Sandi.

Yes shocking behaviour of the OP to actually post the source. Would have been much better to have pretended that he was an ITK.

I’ll have another go at it, After reading the article I then pretend I’ m privy to inside information and post...
” Still hearing we’re interested in Goldstein”.
Surprised scoop is still upset at his nickname
He’s a little too slow to comprehend that the label doesn’t fit when you post a link

Re: Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun
So, in the event we do land 'Goldy' where does that leave Longer and Pierce? Because we can't have that idiocy again where we waste four spots on our list with four ruckmen, most of whom rarely play. We simply don't have that luxury.

Re: Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun
I like the idea of Ryder more than Goldy, I think he'd cost less and can genuinely hold down FF if required. Add him and another 2nd / 3rd string ruckman that has been with an AFL club for a few seasons.
Goodbye Longer, goodbye Pierce, thank you both.

Re: Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun
We are years away from even contending for a flag.
Surely we all remember the Monkhorst, Matthew Clarke, Capuano debacle in the early 2000s.
Gun player Goldy but getting on in years & bringing him to the club in my opinion is a woeful decision.
I’d rather we took Draper & use King eventually as a ruck forward alternating with Marshall.
If we need a mature back up we would be better served pulling one out of the State League.
Give Marshall another 12 months as our number 1 & he could be an elite ruckman of the competition

Marshall as a 2nd ruck would probably be the best in the comp.
Then, in 2-3 years he'd waltz into the no. 1 ruck position and most likely be the best in the comp at that by then.

Stupid, dumb decision. We need to use resources elsewhere.
Draper makes more sense.
We recruit Goldy (who is a good player, but surplus to requirements) I will be convinced we have no idea as a footy club.

Agree, we need a forward/ ruck not a pure ruck stifling Marshalls development.
Need is quality mids , mids & more mids.

Re: Still chasing Goldy according to Heraldsun
Fully agree Jofra,
Yes, take Draper as a back up
Get in a mid or two in the trade FA period (Martin, Jones)
Mids with at least 2 draft selections including top pick is a must
Add Bytel
That’s 4 new mids in the squad for 2020
If Steven goes, we need 5, if Acres is traded, must be for a mid.
