Re: Draper from Essendon Trade
Ruckman Sam Draper is yet to play an AFL game, but that hasn't stopped Essendon and St Kilda from engaging in a bidding war for his services.
According to the Herald Sun's Jay Clark and John Ralph, Draper has been offered $250,000 a year to stay at Essendon.
This comes after the Saints offered Draper a $1.8 million deal over four years, reported earlier this week.

St Kilda are looking at Draper to fill a No.1 ruck position, with youngster Rowan Marshall currently holding the mantle at the Saints.
However, many expect him to be better suited as a No.2 ruckman/forward role.
If Draper decides to move to the Saints, reports suggest the Bombers could ask for a second-round pick.
However, St Kilda may not want to part with a high pick for Draper, given he is untested at an AFL level.
Draper was pushing for senior selection last month, before he suffered an ACL injury during a VFL match against Geelong.
Essendon coach John Worsfold at the time said the injury was a disappointing one.
"It's disappointing for Sam, because his development has been outstanding and we were really pleased with how he has been going," Worsfold said.
"He's been an emergency and very close (to senior selection), so it is really disappointing for him."
However, Worsfold backed him to recover well.
"I was talking to (ruck coach) Mark Jamar today and he said we know Nic Naitanui and Max Gawn have both had knee reconstructions.
"It's all ahead for Sam, he'll be up and about and he's got a really bright career ahead of him."
Essendon may now be more desperate to keep Draper after ruckman Tom Bellchambers injured himself in last night's shock win against the Giants.

Speaking post-game, Worsfold gave an update on the ruckman's injury.
"It's a lower leg injury," Worsfold said.
"We're not sure, it may be a calf. It'll be a scan and we'll assess it from there, but it does appear to potentially be a strain of some sort."
Cale Hooker and Shaun McKernan were forced to cover Bellchambers' absence in the ruck for the rest of the game, and both helped Essendon get over the line against flag contenders GWS.

Is it not a truism that the Injectors always want way more than what one of their players is actually worth?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul 2019 2:29pm Hearing Bombers are wanting a 2nd round pick.

Re: Draper from Essendon Trade
He was picked up as a rookie in 2016, signed a 2-year extension, and is out of contract this year. Essendon will be dicks at the trade table as per usual so we'll see what happens. Either way we will have to trade with Essendon to get any deal done.SaintJohn1956 wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul 2019 3:32pm An Essendon supporter told me he is a rookie and not on contract - not sure if thats right.

Re: Draper from Essendon Trade
So the move is Draper plays predominantly forward currently ahead of King and alternating with Marshall.
Then when/if King takes over it’s the same deal but Bruce ends up being on the chopping block?
Is that how this looks?

I'd be more impressed if we just kept driving his price up to force Essendon to pay overs...we'd be the Clive Palmer of the AFL!

Re: Draper from Essendon Trade
That’s pretty much how the world works. They ask for more than he’s worth. We offer less than he’s worth. We reach an agreement or we walk away.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul 2019 4:23pmIs it not a truism that the Injectors always want way more than what one of their players is actually worth?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul 2019 2:29pm Hearing Bombers are wanting a 2nd round pick.

Re: Draper from Essendon Trade
Drafted as a rookie in 2016, still not good enough to get a game with the Bumbers then he wrecks his ACL a month ago.
Then St Kilda offers $1.8m to this bloke to be our #1 ruckman.
The loonies have obviously escaped and moved into Linton Street.
What makes our club believe they have the ability to repair seriously damaged players?

Here you go scoop, one of the 20 odd articles online claiming anything from a second rounder to Max King in exchange.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul 2019 2:29pm Hearing Bombers are wanting a 2nd round pick.

Re: Draper from Essendon Trade
I think the plan with Draper is to obviously provide depth and cover but could also play as a forward/ruck. Will be interesting to see what happens. Bombers fans really rate him that watch the VFL.
Marshall would still be no 1 ruck.

Agree scoop, recruiting a ruckman like Goldstein could inhibit Marshall’s development.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul 2019 9:40pm I think the plan with Draper is to obviously provide depth and cover but could also play as a forward/ruck. A player who is a forward ruck is the preferred option, though I have no idea if this guy fits the bill or not.

Never said it came from me. Hill wanting to return to Vic was already well known. It's good to know the Saints are keen on him. We almost got both McGoverns, remember?
