Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
...partially or considerably because he is playing the old side and has something to prove?
Even tho he seems to be ‘just goong’?

Yep.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

One of Parker, Kent or Sincs must make way for another tall this week IMO.
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.

Young in for Kent. Sinclair can play through the mid rotation so is important unless replaced with someone who can.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
others have mentioned Hind as getting leather poisoning in the support act.
AR spoke of Kent and how he had a quiet first half but seemed to get serious in 2nd stanza.
Or was that in Perth?
I think (just IMHO) that Kent makes way for Hind, not sure who comes out if Jack Stuv is cherry ripe.
Maybe Kent for Stuv? and no other changes

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
Hind had a better preseason and has not put a foot wrong.
Kent has had 4 very so so games that have been too quiet. Only 5 tackles in 4 games. Parker has had 16. Lonie has had 16.
Personally I would want to see how Hind goes. Plus Hind is quicker.Just keeping him beciase we are playing the Dees is a poor reason to keep him.
The Dees looked good last week and so we need to pick our best possible team.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
Speaking of Hind and leather poisoning - in a poorly performing Frankston, Freeman is getting leather poisoning
I wonder if anyone is keeping tabs on his contributions over and above reading statistics
There are mid season Drafting provisions
Kent has been disappointing to me
Lonie and Long are setting the standard - which brings to question how short do we want to go in attack
When we beat Melbourne last year, Mc Cartin Membrey and Battle caused them problems defending ”tall’s” and forcing their ruckman behind the ball for support (where he took enough marks to be BOG but our tall forwards won the game for us along with Steven hitting the scoreboard)
And we held on

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
There won’t be many changes to the side - especially a winning one. The big open spaces of the ‘G and just a 6 day break (compared to Melbourne’s 9!!) would suggest the need to inject fresh legs and speed. Hence the talk about Hind.
But I reckon Geary will return and possibly Stuv to make way for Ben Paton and McKenzie. Hind will probably have to wait a bit longer.
We’ve not seen much of Kent’s leg speed as yet and really he’s been serviceable at best. But as this thread suggests he probably will retain his spot.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
Maybe he'll fire against his old club?
He's a no for me.
Replaced by Steven if fit or Geary if DMac is fit.
Perhaps Hind replaces him?
Kent does some elite things but too few and doesn't tackle or use his big body in the contest.
He's well behind Lonie, Long & Parker for endeavor and tackling and though reasonably quick does not seem to have great endurance. Lonie, Long & Parker are up and about and energetic, Kent is not.
Looks like a coach favorite thus far, but must be doing something the coaches see that us punters can't because he looks to me what he was at Melbourne, a fringe player who could do some good things from time to time.

He looks sore and injured to me.
Reckon he makes way this week, even against Dees.
Hind for DMac, Steven for Kent.

Looks slow, overweight and can't kick a goal but won't get dropped because Richardson picked him in the draft.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
This could be a 'reason' he gets rested.
I get caught up in the mental bit. Playing him against old mob = (in my mind) a better than average showing. Pride etc.
Dropping him for his first chance against old mob = (in my mind) a show of weakness = Melbourne get 'one up' on us.
But play by play, it just seems he isn't doing much. Is that fair? Does he do anything defensive that maybe isn't noticed? Trying to find reasons to keep him to satisfy the little 10 cent psychology book in my brain.
If he is plausibly injured, perhaps he can miss with our dignity intact?

Surely we couldn’t be playing sore/injured players this early in the one position our list has practically limitless depth?shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 16 Apr 2019 12:44amThis could be a 'reason' he gets rested.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
I reckon Kent has earned a game against his old mob. He hasn't had huge numbers but he's had some really good moments in every game thus far. Winning form is good form so I'd be of the mind to keep him in and if he doesn't deliver this weekend then he's due for a spell to work on getting more involved across 4 qtrs.

Kent clearly has skills, but doesn't quite seem to be at the level we need in the forward half- I would love to see Paton in the forward line instead.

He'll get a go again because of his laser like passes and great decision making, not because he's an ex-Melbourne player.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
Steven and Geary need to come in if available.
I hope we have the foresight to pick Hind
... his pace is made for the MCG.
Kent needs to find some form (and regain his touch/get over his fumbles), and the best place to do that is in the seconds.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
It is worth noting that statistically that Kent in his 4 games at the Saints is averaging less on most stats than he averaged at the Dees. Kicks are the same but with handball his total possessions are down.
Importantly for someone playing as a small forward:
0.5 goals per game vs 1.0 goal per game
1.2 tackles per game vs 2.2 tackles per game (So was never high, but is now terrible)

I'd drop him. Dunstan played a blinder in the ressies. Over 30 possessions.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
I think competition for spots is what you want. This helps to drive success.
The pressure being kept on will make everyone more likely to apply themselves fully.
Last year there was not enough pressure for spots.
This week we saw Paton for example come in and acquit himself well.
Joyce in Round 1 was a superb fill in for Brown.
Hind and Young have shown good signs. So with Kent down on form others should be rewarded.
Our players have to know that places in the 22 are theirs from form and effort.

If Kent goes out we need to swap like with like to maintain the forward structure of 4 small type forwards and two talls.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Re: Will Kent go again because it’s his old lot?
Option 1 J Steven
Not fully fit and so he would only play midfield in bursts. Would mainly be a small forward
= massive upgrade on Kent
Option 2 N Hind.
Has not played much forward, but Kent has been mainly a link man up forward. Hind is actually quicker
Option 3. Young
Raw, but excitement machine.
If Parker is out then two may come in. But if Parker is out club will probably be conservative and retain Kent.

Dunstan and Ross take possessions off each other though.
Watched the Box hill game . Wasn't that impressed with Young. Ran out of puff after half time , but he is raw and does some exciting things. Will be a player.
