Well done to Lonie and McGlynn for turning it around too. I still think Jack can be a big part of the forward line. Too many players sacrifice their own game for the good of the team at times. Yes, its a team game but getting back to why a player ended up at an AFL club is something the player needs to remember. Play to your strengths.

I've been a fan of the boy for a while.

Has skills, heart and can find the ball and showed when confident impact the scoreboard.
Has some deficiencies that can be improved upon.

Also has a good training ethic from what I have read.

In my starting 22, hopefully the coaches agree.

Good post. I like him as well.
Should we consider him for a rotating mifield spot or stick with the specialist forward role?

It seems he blitzes in the VFL thru the middle only to play small forward when recalled.

Still misses too many tackles, cant win enough of it and can turn it over as bad as anyone you have seen.

Again, will probably play a lot of games at Sandringham and probably star in most of those...

But most likely will not make it at senior level.

Personally I am not a fan of Lonie as he seemed to good for VFL but not good enough for AFL but that article did raise an interesting point, he was being played out of position and in a way that went against his natural game when he came up to AFL level. I.e. midfielder who was getting a heaps of ball in VFL so lets make him play as a small forwards and try to make him tackle when it is clearly a weakness. Poor coaching to a certain degree and kind of glad he started to go screw it I am playing like I know how to play and he started to play better albeit mostly against teams that were not finals bound so there was no real hunger at that stage of the season.

One year extension would have been better than two based on the whole year but that is now in the passed and in about 2 months we get to see whether it was the right call. Here's hoping it was

I like Lonie and I'm happy for him that he showed what he was capable of towards the end of last year. He can kick goals, sets others up, and whilst his tackles don't stick as much as we'd like he is still putting the opponent under heavy pressure. He's a natural footballer so I can't wait to see how he goes with another preseason under his belt.

Iam struggling to get him in my 22,feel like he is 23-28,if he gets a go early season will have to perform because their are other options for small forward spots.That is only position Ican see for him.Happy to be proved wrong,just cant imagine him in a midfield roll but

I'm with BR on this one. Has been around a long time now and I can't see him ever being a consistently good player unless he gets much stronger. Last part of last year was encouraging, but I would love to see him show that form when it counts - at the start of the year.

I get frustrated with our smaller players missing tackles allowing easy transition out of our fwd line or easy access through our midfield. Puopolo is small but he tackles hard. That's the sort of power our little guys need - Billings, Lonie, Sinclair etc

He put most of the above criticisms to the sword at the end of last season...lets see if he can back it up now he's re-signed.

If Kent stays fit, Lonie will struggle to make it in there.
With the additions of the interstate recruits who all play a Wing/ Small forward role there will be red hot competition for a spot.
Unless Lonie's tackling dramatically improves, and he is able to consistently be creative and dangerous in front of goals, he will be overlooked.
