I've never been a fan of brown rice.

(Better Out would be AR)

Those look pretty good. Rice didn't go so well so that is a likely one. Newnes? How he hasn't been dropped before this is staggering.

Clark didn't play for Sandy yesterday. I don't think he's that good to not have to play for the seconds.

Why do our higher ranked recruits (Clark and Coffield) not seem to have what it takes and yet most other teams higher ranked recruits just go from strength to strength?

Not sure changes will really help.

A bit like rearranging the chairs in the Titanic.

The higher recruits aren’t coached by Richo, so there’s a game plan and structures put in place that all 43 on their lists understand.

The changes need to be about helping us in 2019 +.

So if Goddard is not picked it will be a farce.

Yep agreed

Why anyone would want to drop rice is beyond me, people go from “oh he’s got great disposal and is tough” to “he’s slow”. Funny how “we need to get them to 50 games” suits some players and not others. Have some absolute peanuts on here

"St Kilda defender Hugh Goddard was a clear standout on Saturday afternoon in Sandringham’s narrow 21-point loss to the Casey Demons in overcast conditions at Casey Fields.

Finishing with 22 disposals and a game-high 14 marks, the 21-year-old impressed with his reading of the flight and strong hands, along with Luke Dunstan (32 disposals, eight tackles), Darren Minchington (26 disposals, five tackles) and Mav Weller (23 disposals, six tackles).

The Zebras started strongly, with a four-goal first quarter made even sweeter as the Demons were kept to just 0.3 at the first break.

Casey managed just four goals from 12 shots on goal for the first half, stunning a home crowd that witnessed Jade Rawlings’ side win their past 11 games heading into Saturday’s clash.

Irishman Ray Connellan impressed as a small forward to finish with three majors and worry the Casey defenders with his blistering pace.

Despite not hitting the scoreboard in the final term as the Demons seized control, Sandringham coach Aaron Hamill was pleased with his side’s pressure and intent at the contest.

“It was a strong start, and we really liked getting our balance right at the contest,” Hamill told saints.com.au.

“Our backs held up really well – Hugh Goddard and Logan Austin (17 disposals, five marks) were both really strong, along with Brandon White back there.

“Goddard played his best game today and is pushing his case for senior selection, and we really liked Nick Coffield’s work (18 disposals, seven tackles) both inside and out.

PHOTOS: Casey vs Sandringham

“Luke Dunstan and Darren Minchington were both outstanding for us inside the contest, and cracked in with the Sandringham boys in Brede Seccull and Kade Answerth without an experienced ruckman.

“Mav Weller and Sam Gilbert (18 disposals, five tackles, five marks) were strong for us in the contest, which was really important with the number of youngsters we’ve got as well.”

Hamill also mentioned the promising development of St Kilda’s young talent throughout the season, with the likes of Ed Phillips, Nick Coffield, Hunter Clark, Logan Austin and Oscar Clavarino each building their individual game.

Sandringham heads to Preston City Oval in Round 20 of the VFL to clash with the Northern Blues at 2pm on Saturday 18 August."

Casey Demons 0.3 4.8 7.12 10.15 (75)
Sandringham 4.1 5.5 8.6 8.6 (54)

Goals: Connellan 3, Haidon 2, Clavarino, Weller, Langlands
Best:Dunston, Minchington, Goddard, Weller, Seccull, Coffield

Nope, 8.6 is way too accurate

I wonder if this sort of discussion happened before the Essendon game or during training last week.

Richo to Nate Brown; "I want to see you being strong in the contests Nate. Hughy is breathing down your neck and he's just waiting for an opportunity. If Hugh continues his form I'll have to play him unless you make a strong case for keeping him out. Make your presence felt out there Browny!!"

Nothing beats a strong marking backman, with 14 marks he must be in form. Get Goddard into the side this week.
