That's nice
Nice people on here... just get personal...

I'd like to actually see your ideas, rather than abuse

Re: Should be on notice IMO
Clearly this week is basically a battle of 'pressure'.
Collingwood appear to be trying to do what we do - and that is pinch games through out-pressuring and out-tackling the opposition.
It took a superhuman effort from them last week, in terms of their pressure and tackling numbers - to beat an undermanned, out of form and inexperienced team by 1 point. That's a concern for them.
Pressure and tackling and intensity is the only strong they have to their bow. Sound familiar??
Like us, they have very low skill level across the park and very little high end talent. Granted, they have more than us with Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Treloar. But aside from them, it drops sharply to a bunch of battlers.
So again, like us, if they attempt to implement a precise and 'surgical' style of play - they'd be eaten alive by most teams. They, like us, just don't have the skill level to play that sort of game.
So like us, they rely on pressure and intensity to win games.
So basically, it will be an arm wrestle. Two teams trying to out-pressure and out-tackle each other and bring greater intensity than their opponent. The one that brings it, will win.
So my long winded point is - this is not the game to be giving immature kids a run. If you want to win that is. If you want to treat it as a learning experience to give them a taste of intense pressure in front of a huge crowd - then they should give a few young guys a game. But, we'll get flogged.

Re: Should be on notice IMO
I agree BM those players should absolutely be on notice.
I actually think Savage should come out and we should look to bring in one of D-Mac or Wright.
Otherwise agree and fail to see how Billings and Paddy can hold their spots after last week

Re: Should be on notice IMO
I'll throw Weller into the mix, has a couple of goals but - 1 tackle in 2 weeks… and a pretty underwhelming start to the year for a senior player in the leadership group, kicks far too many points.
Replace him with Long who we know loves a tackle…

I only watched the first quarter of the Pies/Sydney game - the most remarkable thing about that quarter was the ball movement and kicking - precise, attacking and not at all lacking in skill. I would be most pleased if I saw a StKilda side able to do as well.

There is 0% chance Gilbert will be dropped.SaintPav wrote:Gilbert, gone.

He is one of few players we use to break the lines.
Granted he is not the best at it, but nonetheless we don't have a ready made replacement for him.
Hasn't played too badly imo either. Sure he has had some brain fades but has done some really good things as well.

I don't completely disagree with you but we are VERY limited as to who can perform the same role.SaintPav wrote:IluvHarvey wrote:There is 0% chance Gilbert will be dropped.SaintPav wrote:Gilbert, gone.

He is actually very hard to tackle. If you watch closely he either breaks tackles or when he is stopped it usually is due to 2+ opposition players needed.
There is still upside to his game. Imagine if he was an elite kick ?

I think this is the point, young guys don't become magically ready made by running around at sandy.IluvHarvey wrote:There is 0% chance Gilbert will be dropped.

If we aren't really challenging for a flag we should be looking to get games into Dmac, White, Rice, Long, Sinclair when possible.
I don't mind Gilbert in the side, but I don't know if he should play every week… Gwilt would probably still be in our best 22 also if he hadn't of been delisted.

The club will still be expecting us to make finals this year, where it seems the supporters have written us off.
Changes to blood kids should be looked at once the club concedes we are not going to make it.
Otherwise it should be the best we have every week up until that point.

Re: Should be on notice IMO
Well we are giving Paddy a game most weeks on the basis of giving him experience even though he is not really contributing to the performance of the side.IluvHarvey wrote: Changes to blood kids should be looked at once the club concedes we are not going to make it.
Otherwise it should be the best we have every week up until that point.
I don't think we can wait till we are mathematically out of the race for the finals before we think beyond 2017 and play more kids, and we don't want them all in together either… but if we get spanked by another middling side like collingwood then we can probably rule out our premiership tilt this year @ round 4. If senior players like Weller, Gilbert & Savage are out of form then they should have a rest.
Re: Should be on notice IMO
I'd say on notice is/should be:
Savage - not damaging enough - Bailey Rice/Mckenzie/White
Lonie/Weller - Playing ok enough for now but Long is in the wings threatening pressure and goal kicking ability
McCartin - Marshall.. in the long run Battle
Bruce - Missing too many shots, not providing enough in the ruck - Marshall again
Billings - not enough impact - Stevens/Sincs/Long
I don't think gilbert is in any trouble, broke the lines well on the weekend, good aggression, attack on the ball, tackled well, pin pointed a pass or two also. Can play full back, back pocket, on the wing, in the square, etc, richo would appreciate that

Re: Should be on notice IMO
Paddy did bring the ball to ground in dangerous spots about 10 times last week. Obviously better if he marks it but he's still good for our structure - he does bring something, to say he doesn't is silly, but whether it's enough or not is up for debatedragit wrote:Well we are giving Paddy a game most weeks on the basis of giving him experience even though he is not really contributing to the performance of the side.IluvHarvey wrote: Changes to blood kids should be looked at once the club concedes we are not going to make it.
