After 209 games, Farren Ray has announced his retirement from the AFL.
The veteran managed just four games with North Melbourne after playing with the Bulldogs and St Kilda in career that spanned thirteen seasons.
“I sat down with ‘Scotty’ [Brad Scott] about three weeks ago and told him that I would be finishing up at the end of the year,” Ray told NMFC.com.au.
“Although my time at North was brief, I cannot thank the club enough for the opportunity it gave me to extend my career.”
Ray’s year with the Roos was a frustrating one and included a serious hamstring injury and concussion.
“The way things panned out wasn’t ideal and I would have liked to have played some more footy, but that’s the way it all unfolded and I am just glad to have had the opportunity.”
just who is doing list management at the Roos- seems like they are bout to turn over 1/3 of their team..--

Great reminder, so strong and reliable overhead.
+1
So many times took those relief marks when we were clearing a congested defensive 50m....he would just rise and mark at full stretch. Good player and seems like a good bloke.
I liked him too. Recollection that in the 2009 GF he accidentally injured a Geelong player and I had a sense it put him off his game - was a bit of a turning point for us. Anyone else remember that?

Not sure i do, But i do remember him showing Joel Selwood in either 2010 or 2011 in rd 1 how to earn a hardball get. now that was a big hit.
Farren is slightly taller than Luke Hodge but just as skilled with his feet, in fact, he is better with his non preferred than Hodge is with his. Both are comparable over head contested mark specialists. Hodge is a much better handballer. But the big difference between the two players is their aggressiveness on opposition players. This gets down to a player's temperament, and although we might wish for a player to suddenly change, in reality it rarely if ever happens. Farren was the ultimate fair player, some might say too fair. In that regard, he not unlike Nick. So he became a run-with player rather than a aggressive on-baller. There is no doubt that he was an important player for us in the "good" years. Like many others, he deserved to be part of a premiership team. Alas, it was not to be.

Bratty what's wrong with you?
You seem obsessed with clubs NOT turning over players. Norf need to do a full rebuild and do need to sack plenty. I'm looking forward to at least 3 more delistings from us btw....
