The F Word
Finals. Can we make it this year?
We have upcoming games:
very winnable
GC
Bombers
Melbourne
Carlton
Richmond
Lions
possibly winnable
Bulldogs
Kangaroos
unlikely
Swans
Am I getting ahead of myself? We are a legitimate shot at finals with the remaining draw, despite the hullabaloo about our atrocious performances this year.

Re: The F Word
You would have to say that If we play the rest of the year as we did tonight and did not win at least 6 more games , then we've been unlucky !
12 wins and a good percentage may get us in .
Only time will tell

Re: The F Word
North every chance of missing finals!
We play them in 4 weeks.
we should be favourites in all 3 games leading in to that.
They will only be favourites against Power/ us and Collingwood.
If we can knock them off / who knows?

Our percentage is terrible, assume we need 7 wins not 6 unless we demolish at least 4 sides by massive marginsmr six o'clock wrote:You would have to say that If we play the rest of the year as we did tonight and did not win at least 6 more games , then we've been unlucky !

Re: The F Word
Best case scenario...I've had us missing by a game all year. If we get up against the Tigers I reckon we'll miss out on percentage. Never mind, we've still got a long way to go before we're competitive in finals anyway...lets look at losing by less than 10 goals on the road first.

Re: The F Word
If North lose as many as I think it will take care of their percentage as well.
We on the other hand have some real percentage boosting opportunities(bar Swans and Dogs)

Just check North's draw compared to ours.Con Gorozidis wrote:No chance. 2 games + 40% off 8th. 3 games behind 7th.
We need to beat all the teams below us plus North.
We can afford to lose to Swans and Dogs only.
Probably 10 or so to 1!

Re: The F Word
We play 6 at Docklands, 2 at the MCG and one on the Gold Coast.
I reckon the games at Docklands are all winnable even though we play North, the Dogs and Sydney. The two at the MCG could be tricky as will the one next week against the GC coming off a good win. In any event, the improvement this year, from last, is palpable.

Re: The F Word
Given our run home, yes we are a genuine chance of making the finals.
However, it doesn't matter. We are not yet a Premiership contender so making finals is not a prioirity, developing a Premiership team is.
Whilst, finals would be a great experience for the young blokes, getting smashed in a final because we're not quite ready could have negative effects. Unfortunately the final 8 rewards mediocrity and we've seen many young sides sneak into the lower reaches of the 8, then get pollaxed in finals and go backwards the next season.

If we were to make finals that would give the boys some valuable experience playing finals intensity footy, plus give them confidence that the game plan we have can bring success.Linton Lodger wrote:Given our run home, yes we are a genuine chance of making the finals.

Re: The F Word
We'd have to beat North and the Bulldogs as they're the teams most likely to come out. We'll need at least 13 wins to get in, our percentage is poor.
All in all though, it's nice to be having this conversation for the first time in a while, albeit a long shot.

Re: The F Word
Beating the likes of Richmond and Melbourne will help because that will deny them the wins they need as well as improving our own position. Still, a lot else would need to go right. The fact it's still mathematically possible is something at least.
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

I would be absolutely stoked if we made the finals. Sure, if that happened we'd most like bomb out in the Elims but who cares. It would be a huge bonus and a good practice for when we become a really good sideMilne wrote:If we were to make finals that would give the boys some valuable experience playing finals intensity footy, plus give them confidence that the game plan we have can bring success.Linton Lodger wrote:Given our run home, yes we are a genuine chance of making the finals.

Re: The F Word
Don't think we can. We haven't shown great consistency this year - it's unlikely to start now.
We will drop one against Melbourne or Carlton - both likely to be fired up given previous defeats by the Saints, and both reasonable sides.
Form also tells us that we're unlikely to beat GC.
We may also get some injuries - only takes a couple of key outs to have a big impact.
Don't mean to be negative, but I reckon another 4 wins would be a great result. That would be a big improvement from last year.
