Almost 116000 people at the 1956 GF. That's a huge number & would have been either just before or just after the Olympics were held at the same venue.

What i don't get is that if the official attendances are NOT based on the counters at each turnstile, then where did they come from?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Considering the population in Melbourne at that time was around 2 million that's an incredible turnout. Can't imagine too many we're travelling interstate or even from the country back then.

They need to recalibrate their time machine because it looks like that they went back at least 50 years too far

I've met at least 250,000 who were there in 1966 so there's still a few more to be added to the list.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Too think the city is twice the size now and still can't match those crowds. AFL crowds despite the propaganda have been dying as a percentage of population for a very long time.

What's that song they sing at the end after the GF win?

You realise the ground is completely full, surely? As for h&a yes they aren't as big per population but again you realise every single game is live on TV and you do realise there are many other things to do than back in the day of basically only footy and cricket.

Footy crowds are still fantastic compared to any other Aussie sport and are the fourth biggest average in world sport. Not bad I would say. People still love their footy

Actually their figures are definitely wrong. They were the days when Freddy had some value (for those who know what I am talking about).

Yes it sure swelled the numbers in the Melbourne Members area. Was in the days of wearing hats too, so they stood out like the proverbial 'dogs b@lls'
