Thanks Dempster!
I've been feeling quite low since that Drongo Carlilse has caused our beloved club and players some angst. I was against using our Pick 5 that could release him to us. Stated before the trade went through I thought he was too much of a risk to gamble that pick on, mainly because of the WADA issue hanging over his head, his dodgy knee, his sulky attitude that showed he wasn't really a team player. Now he has confirmed just what a lame brain he is................. saynta was correct all along........ Carlilse seems an absolute dumb bum and does have off field issues. Must make the 'saynta' haters on this site choke on their weeties Good call Saynta............. and like you I think the club might be doing a lot behind the scenes currently to make it all not so bad for our club......... just my feeling, folks. At least I hope so, our players deserve it.
Anyway my mood picked up when I read the article on Sean Dempster on Saints.com.au I'm sure bratty will put a link up to the article soon. I just admire players like Sean Dempster.............. Goes about every thing with a minimum of fuss, never drawing attention to himself. His off field life is just like his playing. Dependable and smart.
He's been quietly studying over the years, now with his quals is assisting the club by putting a program together with one of our fitness staff for the rest of the players for their off season. Our Mr Reliable keeps on just giving to the Club......... such a story fills me with more hope and respect how some of our players are quietly developing into well rounded individuals. I doubt that drongo Carlilse will ever be able to become the man Sean Dempster is. The drongo might have football skills, but his character is very dubious IMHO.
Thanks Sean Dempster for lightening my mood................ You quiet achiever, and giver to the Saints

Re: Thanks Dempster!
Another article on the Saints.com.au site is from Peta Searle's travel diary. She is currently in the US on a study tour. A lecture she attended at the US Navy Seals base was on a theory called "Mental Toughness".
It includes:-
Moral courage
Integrity
Humility
Creativity
Teamability (Peta wasn't quite sure that was a word and what it quite meant, but she went along with it!)
Resiliency.
Peta went on to say 'if we can apply these 6 words on a daily basis, I'm sure our playing group and club will prosper".
Well IMHO, Sean Dempster already possesses those 6 traits in spades.
The Drongo Carlilse appears to me to be lacking in all? Maybe he can stake a bit of a claim on creativity................... after all he can produce, direct and act in his own crap video, so I guess dumbness has an element of idiotic creativity. But he's sadly lacking in what counts the most where character is concerned...... no wonder his new team mates are livid. He sure is not off to a good start.

Re: Thanks Dempster!
Teamability? Resiliency? Only in America! As a teacher Peta must have got a good laugh out of those two words.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
Re: Thanks Dempster!
Dempster is a legend.
Went from fringe to AA. He's committed, gives 150% every game, and just gets the job done and an absolute legend.
Carlisle is nothing compared to Dempster and has a lot of work to do to gain the same status.

So why are we paying Carlisle $$$ more than The Dumpster?lefty wrote:Dempster is a legend.

Eh Dempster is pretty good but isn't someone the oppo worry about much. I'd like to see him get phased out this year. The best teams use their backline as an explosive launch pad for attack. In a way he epitomizes why we didn't win a flag - solid but not dangerous.lefty wrote:Dempster is a legend.

Re: Thanks Dempster!
Plucked from this in late June - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/a ... d7603a4a3f
One player per club, best at getting the ball back and sending it back t'other way. A very highly rated commodity by all clubs, that type. When he does rebound, his disposal ain't the best around, but it's far from the worst (and his decision making is sound). And, his kicking does have depth.
I doubt it would have changed from late June, to year's end, and doubt it would have been any different this year to the last few.
"ST KILDA - SEAN DEMPSTER
Sean Dempster is one of the most under-rated players in the AFL and continues to produce the goods for St Kilda. While shutting down the most dangerous small forwards in the AFL, Dempster has a solid attacking side. He leads the club in intercept possessions and marks as well as rebound 50s and one percenters."
2nd at the club in contested marks, too, behind The Bruce. The Bruce is No 7, Shinner No 26 (equal with Harry Taylor and Jeremy McGovern in '15).
Fit as a trout, resilient as rubber, covers a lot of ground helping out and has a very high on ground time. At 31, he's got more than one year left in him.
Goes OK on more than just "small forwards", too.

One of the best recruits from another AFL team that we have ever had (Gehrig wasn't bad either).

Re: Thanks Dempster!
Been saying it for years - Dempster so underrated by all, including Saints fans. Good to see him being recognised now for how important he is to us. Be my favourite player of the current crop. Just about the best overhead mark in the comp as well!

Re: Thanks Dempster!
I was smashed last night when posting. I was way to harsh on Demps. Damn reliable and his marking has really gone up in the last couple of years. But I still think he lacks the offensive weaponry that we really need from our backmen and I suspect he might sit out a few games as we rotate our backmen to give them all a try out and get the new generation to start to take over. Will never question his commitment or timing.mambo2706 wrote:Bluthy wrote:Eh Dempster is pretty good but isn't someone the oppo worry about much. I'd like to see him get phased out this year. Re: Thanks Dempster!
Love the Dumpster! Took me a while to appreciate him, but by golly, he has been such an integral player for us since coming over from Sydney. Probably the best thing to come out of Ross Lyon's recruiting.
Also, he's a very selfless, stoic and disciplined player. A great role model for the younger players.

Maybe we should get those 'YOU HAVE BEEN DEMPSTERED' tee-shirts going again. Remember about 3 seasons ago some poster on this site had some made up?St Lenny wrote:Love the praise the Dumpster is getting, he deserves it. Been a massive fan from the word go.
Pity the Cheer Squad don't make up a banner with words something along the lines of:
'You have just been DEMPSTERED'............ to hold up each time Sean takes on of those timely and often courageous marks deep in defence to cut off an oppositions certain shot on goal. Other club's Cheer Squads have banners with a play on the players names. Our Cheer Squad doesn't appear very innovative in that area. Sorry not wanting to bash the cheer squad peeps.

Hey loris, the Dempstered tee shirts were the brainchild of stkildathunda, who sadly doesn't post much these days.loris wrote:Maybe we should get those 'YOU HAVE BEEN DEMPSTERED' tee-shirts going again. Re: Thanks Dempster!
Round 18, August 1, 2009.
Scores level at the SCG with seconds remaining.
Sydney player running along boundary on right HFF. Next score wins. A loss coming up.
Dempster chases him hard, wins the ball back. The ball finds Joey at half forward who squeezes through for the winning point.
Dempster won me over in the final minute. Been a fan ever since.
