MDIFIELDER Farren Ray will miss at least the first two months of the home and away season after rupturing the tendon in his right hamstring in Saturday’s NAB Challenge match against Brisbane.

Reading the list it looks like both Roberton and Savage (to a lesser extent) are more precautionary than anything. Roberton out for only a week with a hammy and Savage for two weeks. Would like to know if it's an approach because of the time of year or indicative of how we will approach these type of things from now on - no risks.

Bad for Farren - a good team man and seems like a good bloke. However, not a disaster for the club. Will make no difference to win/loss and gives a kid an opportunity.

Terrible for Faz and these injuries probably hurt our chances of snagging a few early season wins like last year, but long term it's probably going to speed up our development. Acres is pretty much guaranteed a start in round one now. Wright would be odds on to get a gig with Roberton and Savage unlikely to be fully fit and Ray's injury gives us the option to elevate two rookies for the first half of the year. Saad and Holmes will be throwing everything they have at the rest of the pre season comp to impress and earn a senior spot.

Not team shattering news, but rotten luck for Faz at this time of year. Will be back later on in the year, when a few of the younger guys may be needing a break. His experience will be missed.

Really bad news for Farren Ray but surely that opens up a spot for Ahmed Saad to be elevated, which is a silver lining of sorts.
