Gwilt Forward
Anyone else enjoy this as much as me?
Provided a lot more than Maister (not hard) but also felt he presented well.
Not a bad option, especially considering he can kick them from 50 (set shot in front needs work)
I'm sure Roo
Wouldn't mind having Gwilt kicking it too him either.
Thoughts?

Re: Gwilt Forward
I was sitting right behind his kick for goal and it never looked like missing. He can be a beautiful kick.
I think it was a horses for courses move on the day only.

Re: Gwilt Forward
Should he play fwd because he's a good kick?
I never saw the game, how long was he fwd? How many shots did he have? How did he get a shot on goal?

Re: Gwilt Forward
Played forward for three quarters, had one mark inside 50 (at about 48) which led to his one goal. Had one other shot which was a snap and missed by a bit.
Has less agility and is slower than Maister (which is saying something) so provides less forward pressure. We couldn't keep the ball in our forward line in the second half because Roo and Jimmy were the only two permanent forwards and they couldn't lay a tackle.
I thought he was pretty useless down there. Would rather see him at Sandy than in a forward pocket.

Re: Gwilt Forward
Unfortunately I don't think he has a position at AFL level… too small for KP, too slow for medium/running player.
Simpkin deserves a crack at Gwilts spot, I like the bit of mongrel he brings.

Re: Gwilt Forward
Gwilt missed a shot from straight in front. Time to move him onto Sandy for good. His lack of pace and turning circle is embarrasing

Gwilt is a hack. Been a hack for years. Every year he plays he just becomes a slower hack.

Re: Gwilt Forward
Jimmy had 2 set shots from marks - kicked 1.1.
In the back line he'd been good for the early part of the game. Hack is a bit harsh, thought he went OK considering how off the team was.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Gwilt Forward
Well he was one of our better players this weekend no doubt about it - but I still don't see the point of playing him going fwd.
My personal opinion is hes a bit of a list clogger now.
Id rather see Bruce down back and even Simpkin used as a 'swingman' who can play back but also go and do Maisters crash and bash job down fwd.
Personally id be playing Simpkin and Bruce most weeks at the expense of Beau and Gwilt.
Not sure what the point of having 21-22yos like Simpkin and Bruce rotting away in the VFL or sitting in stands as emergencies when we are clearly and obviously in a development year. And neither Bruce nor Simpkin are 'kids' - so I wont accept the 'throwing them to the wolves' argument either. I think a bit of fwd thinking is required. And you cant tell me Gwilt and Maister are soo good they command their positions on strength of performance- that would be a nonsense.

Re: Gwilt Forward
He's a hack
he had an ok year behind Zac, Fisher, Dempster and Raph.
Pretty much unaccountable and able to slowly swing onto his left side and kick when he has time - otherwise he will just cough it up.
Under pressure he is clueless. One on one he is hysterical. Pretty much just grabs his opponent and throws him to the ground.
Just go.

100% efficiency against GWS and in our top 6 against Adelaide.#gosaintas wrote:He's a hack

You are either a troll or racist.
Re: Gwilt Forward
To even suggest such a thing indicates they way you think James. Poor call, and if the first thing that pops into your mind when a player gets critisised is the colour of their skin... You should adjust your thinking.
What has perfectly debatable footy opinion got to do with race?!

Re: Gwilt Forward
I'm curious too, I don't have him in our best 10 in a game where we were flogged.maverick wrote:How was he in our top 6?
Given a performance like that should there be a top 6?
Riewoldt, Hayes, Dunstan, Ray, Dempster, Saunders, Armitage, Curren, Steven, Newnes at least, had more impact.

Re: Gwilt Forward
Whoa there james.
I have no idea where you are going with this but the fact that Gwilt is a hack has nothing to do with his ancestry. He's just finished. Time to go. That's it.
Watch him in a one on one - clueless.
Watch him under pressure - clueless.
Watch him handball - clueless.
Watch him get caught on his right side - you get the picture.
Time to go.

He was our 14th best for that stat with 64.3%
What was he top 6 in?

Gwilt is should not be our nos1 backman. Blame the recruiters.
If Cameron Mooney didn't ride him like a stallion, we wouldn't have made the 2010 Gf.
