Saints have done it again...

Post: # 1405852Post saintbrat »

been part of AFL/VFL action which has resulted in a rule change

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-18/n ... ss-changes...

The Freo rule ( or No tanking rule
In layman's terms, it means that clubs can base their team selection and match-day coaching around injuries and player welfare, as well as the need to look at their depth and younger players with a view to the future. But teams on the bottom of the ladder and those already in the finals will be walking a finer line.

atleast we will always be remembered as being 'part of the game"

It all adds to the "strange things happen when the Saints play Freo" meme.

1999. Umpire Carey marks the ball.

2005: Whispers in the Sky.

2006: Sirengate

2007: Baker suspended 7 weeks for an incident no one saw.

2009: Milne puffs up like the Elephant Man and has to get driven home across the Nullarbor.

2013: Most ever team possessions in an AFL match. Rules get changed.

Forgetting anything?

AFL are morons. How about making the bottom 10 a draft lottery?
I don't have a problem with bottom teams playing kids, at least they won't be deliberately LOSING!

There's a difference between not caring about the result by playing kids, and going all out to LOSE to get better draft picks.

The AFL system encourages the latter and are intentionally ignoring that fact.

Wouldn't surprise me if they change the draft pick allocations once GWS and GC are up the ladder, tools.

Punch "NBA tanking" into google and see how effective draft lotteries are at stopping tanking.

I reckon basically taking away the priorty pick has stopped it anyway. The bottome 3 this year seemed like the real bottom 3 to me. We certainly dont want a lottery in the next 2 years.

If we finish on the bottom of the ladder it will be because we deserve to finish to the bottom of the ladder.
We don't need to tank to achieve our rightful and heritage position on the ladder.
We are St Kilda FC.
We deserve pick No 1.

tanking might not work in the nba, but their free agency market is a lot different to ours. plus you can build a championship team around 2 great players in basketball.

So maybe we should move to 5 a side. That'll fool them!
